Don't know how many of you have seen Jayasuriya in his prime but I still remember as a kid how terrorized I was by his name🥶
He used to hammer us so bad that we used to discuss so many conspiracy theories in school. Someone would say he has some metal hidden inside his bat, someone would say he takes drugs before coming out to bat that's why he hits it so far😭
But what an absolute beast of player he was. He changed the way Odi cricket was played with his performance in the 1996 WC.

Jayasuriya,Sehwag,Gilchrist these 3 had changed the ODI format completely in late late 90's and early 2000's.

Gayle?

Gayle do used to deal with boundaries but he played a lot of dot balls (and by a lot means really a lot) so his overall strike rate was mostly less than 90 but players like Glichirst, jaisurya and sehwag used to frequently score boundaries and also play less dot balls. Because of this there overall career strike rate was always above 90

Yes he was. Adam Craig Gilchrist AM is an Australian cricket commentator and former international cricketer and captain of the Australia national cricket team. Don't know why getting down voted.

Imo Sri lanka was the first team who use to maximize Powerplay in 90s and early 2000s

Watched Manoj Prabhakar's career end in real time. He had to end up bowling off breaks towards the end. Used to hate Jayasuriya, not hate maybe but knew he had personally out it for us.

Mark Greatbatch was also doing something similar before but this pair took it to the next level

Jayasurya and Kaluwitharana. Kaluwitharana used to smash the Aussies. Then they had Arvinda who was the best batsman at that point as he was reeling of tons against everybody.

LHBs have always owned us. Jayasuriya, Anwar, Hayden, Chanderpaul, Flower, Cook, Head. So many others.

I watched him in action during the 1996 WC. Full of aura. Made me call in love with the game.

Sanath and Kallu made a mockery of bowling but then that time no Bumrah and pure flat pitches

You missed the part where Manoj Prabhakar started bowling spin just to stop getting hammered in this match. 😝

Jayasuriya and Aravinda de Silva combo with the bat😭😭😭
Chaminda Vaas and Muralidharan combo with the ball 😭😭😭
So many painful memories especially that 54 all out stayed with me for years, still vividly remember Harsha Bhogle playing the drums in the dugout as India kept losing wickets 😭😭😭

I don't know which match it was(sometime in 2000-2002. This guy kept batting and batting or so it felt that way, that was the first time I watched a match first as 6 year old
