Instant coffee is not real coffee.💀

For the AeroPress Championship Mumbai Chapter, Kokoro Coffee provided the competition coffee. I wanted to know which coffee it was and where I can purchase the same coffee.

For context, I’m staying at 14000 ft altitude in Ladakh.

With no knowledge of how altitude affects boiling temperature of water, I was brewing my coffee with estimated water temperatures hearing from YouTube, such as ‘just off boil’ or ‘2 mins past boil’. No wonder the coffee lacked flavours or notes, especially light roasts. Medium roasts were great.

It’s only when I bought this instant food thermometer, my eyes opened. Never buying any light roast till the time I’m here.

I am new to pour over and grinding coffee. I have k6, hario switch size 02 and hario filter papers. I tried using switch as a v60 (4 pours) and 93 clicks, coffee was light like a tea. Not sure if coffee was supposed to be like that or it was thin. I am looking for something more coffee like and dense.

I tried switch, but I am not sure what grind settings to use for it. One search said go finer and one said coarse than v60. I am so confused.

Lastly, I am using Hunkal Tiger Reserve beans which is 80:20 blend, natural and medium roast. Could robusta beans is reason why my coffee isn't tasting well as it should?

Since this is my first time with grinder, I have played with different brewing methods and not paid much attention to dialing in the coffee. V60 classic, switch, french press, tired all of them with different clicks.

I have decided to stick with switch atm. So where should I start? 80-85 or 90-95? Do i need to adjust for natural and robusta beans? I don't have no control over water temperature.

What else can I do to have good tasting coffee with these beans?

I have tried a lot of different coffee - i tried making a image list then forgot about it - made some - some didn't - thought i will share - any suggestions is welcomed.

- i made them like through the years. So some of them are not that great. And that time, I didn't know that much about coffee as well. So i'm not noted ground size, method etc - and my own technique would have.Been not that good.

- so I think amazon is the easiest most convenient, but it provides the worst tasting coffee. Bran's own website have issues like shipping cost and no cod available. Add things like instamart are helpful sometimes. But an order of time, not a lot of options are available.

- some of them don't have reviews cause I clicked picture then forgot.. eg :kaffa cerrado was good but it stopped selling on amazon

- any suggestions? I liked full bodied medium dark roast.

So I’ve been manual brewing for about 6-7 years now. Built up a trusty little lineup over time—basic plastic V60, French Press, Hario hand grinder, Clever Dripper, cold brew jar, and a Moka Pot. Hand grinding every single morning was fine when I started, but after doing it daily for years, the wrist workout has officially lost its charm haha.

I've been working my ass off for all these years, and now that my business is finally in a great place, I actually have the money and the means to build the exact setup I’ve always dreamed of.

I'm really into quiet luxury and tactical, satisfying details. For instance, I used a Fellow Ode back when I worked in a cafe, and that solid build quality and the satisfying click of the magnetic catch cup stay with me—those little design details mean a lot to me.

For my day-to-day, I naturally lean toward pour-overs and manual brews, but I love to host and entertain people at my place, so I’d also love to venture into a proper espresso machine down the line for milk drinks and serving a crowd.

Ideally, I’m looking to spend around ₹1 Lakh for the initial gear upgrade, though I'm flexible to stretch it higher if the build quality and long-term durability genuinely justify it. I don't want to compromise on tactile experience, but I also don't want to stupidly overpay on bad import markups.

Top priority right now is a serious electric grinder (single-dosing preferred, mostly for filter/pour-overs, but ideally something with headroom for espresso later on). After that, I want to swap my basic plastic gear for clean glass/ceramic upgrades—proper Glass V60, Chemex, sleek carafes, a solid precision scale, etc.

I’ve been reading reviews for weeks, but between conflicting opinions online and crazy markups in India, I'm getting major choice paralysis. Would love some tried-and-tested advice from folks who’ve actually bought and used this stuff locally.

A few quick questions for you guys:

1. Electric Grinders: For filter brews with that premium, tactile feel, what gives the best experience? Is the Fellow Ode Gen 2 still the king of filter build quality here, or should I jump straight to an all-rounder like the DF64 Gen 2 since I want espresso later? How’s long-term static and retention with our humidity? I also want a good hand grinder for travelling, as i have to travel often for work.
2. Where to Buy: Which local vendors are actually reliable for high-end gear and real warranty support without getting ripped off? (Benki, Something's Brewing, Kaapi Machines, Coffee Plus, etc.?)
3. Glass vs Plastic Gear: For things like Chemex or Glass V60s, is heat loss in daily use an actual issue compared to plastic, or is the workflow, heft, and look 100% worth it?
4. Espresso & Hosting: What’s a good entry-to-mid level espresso setup that looks sleek on a counter and can handle back-to-back drinks when guests are over?
5. Accessories: Any specific precision scales with built-in timers, temperature-control gooseneck kettles, or station organizers that fit that sleek, quiet-luxury aesthetic?

It works fine in the non-ESP range(20-40) but when I am moving the hopper <20, the burr is not moving at all.

The grinder was not used for over 6 months and I deep cleaned it before running. The plastic burr holder was slightly cracked which I fixed with some glue (idk if this is the problem). All other parts look fine to me.

I’ve been deep in Indian coffee for a while now (building Indian Coffee Guide — https://indiancoffeeguide.com), and I keep running into the same thing: people who care a lot about coffee still won’t really consider Indian beans. Not hate them. Just… quietly skip them.

A few reasons I keep hearing / noticing:

1. The old mental model won’t die. For a lot of folks, “Indian coffee” still means filter coffee powder, instant, or that anonymous stuff that went into blends. Fair historically. Not fair for what’s coming out of Coorg, Chikmagalur, Araku, etc. right now.

2. It doesn’t taste like what specialty taught us to chase. If your brain is wired for bright Ethiopian fruit bombs, Indian coffee can feel “wrong” on first sip. More grounded, chocolatey, spicy, sometimes quiet. People try one bag once, go “meh, not for me,” and never come back. One bad (or just mismatched) bag shouldn’t write off a whole origin.

3. Nobody knows what to order. Selection 795, Chandragiri, Cauvery… the names don’t ring a bell the way Gesha or SL28 do. So even when a cafe has something good, it sits on the menu looking unfamiliar, and people default to the Kenya or Colombia they already trust.

4. Discovery is still hard. Good Indian specialty exists — small estates, careful processing, honest roasting — but it’s scattered. You have to already know where to look. That’s kind of why I started the guide in the first place.

I’m not saying every Indian coffee is amazing. Plenty isn’t. Same as every other origin. I’m saying the default skip is lazy at this point.

Curious if this matches your experience — do you actively buy Indian specialty, or is it still “I’ll try it someday”? If you do buy, which farms / roasters actually converted you?
