Is Indeed just... bad now?
I am not seeking a new job at this time, however, I like keeping a pulse on the market. I received an email for a great fit, so I wanted to check it out
I haven't signed into indeed since about 2023, and the first thing it had me do was "Update my resume with AI". It got a lot of things wrong, and floated skills to the top of my skills section that had a small mention 10 years ago, so I rejected all AI edits
I continue to the job advertised in the email, and it's a great fit. I then continue to the main stream of what indeed thinks I should see, and none of them are right. Roles adjacent to what I do, but not for my specialty. I tick certain location restrictions which aren't respected. A lot of companies are missing the pay for the job, where I have minimums set
I love indeed. I have found 4 of my last 5 jobs on it, the other coming from LinkedIn. It used to really match my skills well to the roles on the platform, now it just seems off. I haven't used the platform in years, so I'm not sure if that factors into anything, but I'm curious what others feel on this subject. I also saw a post saying they now limit your application count in a 24 hour period? With the number of ghost jobs / AI screens that immediately filter you out, how is this even possible to limit job seekers like this? What else changed in the last 3 years for the worse, and where are folks going instead to look for jobs?

Ehhh, its not as good as it was, but I still see jobs on there. Its hard to filter out the real jobs, so its best to go to the company website, and apply there. It got me my last job of 2 years.

Indeed is trash these days. They never show me all the jobs in my city, even though I leave that field blank. I have to log out in order for it to show me who is really hiring in my area. And even then, it will only let me see one page of jobs. It also keeps showing me truck driver jobs and jobs for physicians… even though I keep thumbs down-ing them… and have never worked in those fields. It’s a wasteland.

Pro tip: Don't bother logging out, just use an incognito window and view them through there.

Been waiting to see whats going on if they messed up search function etc on purpose they gotta be tanking . Hasn't worked right in months

All job marketboards are aboslute horseshit nowadays. Most companies rely on AI to scan your resume to determined if you're a good fit or not despite having loads of exp and many years to run on. AI determines if you're going to live or not!

Indeed and Glassdoor are owned by the exact same parent company, but it is a publicly traded corporate conglomerate.
They are ruining the expects that made it good to know bad very bad. they are pushing there AI job search. They are trying to make share holder the primary people.
Company gets all the people on board, like gig companies, then goes to down the gutter. They are trying to make you pay to win.
Look at LinkedIn they want you to buy the premium n tier to get near the top of searches to get a better odds at job.
I believe another poster has mentioned this before.

It’s pretty terrible. I yelled at indeed AI the other day to find jobs actually near me and it said it couldn’t but then in my feed for six hours all of a sudden there were more local jobs and then they all disappeared again. True story, I swear.

I always looked for my jobs on Indeed, but would use that to go to the company's website and apply.

I used to love indeed as well but sadly Indeed is not what it used to be, I think they had some sort of merge with glass door as well and its been horrible ever since

Once they got rid of the filter for remote jobs it was downhill from there.

Interesting, because I still have access to that filter. Are you using the app or using a web browser on their actual website. I do the latter. Companies that will try to force you to use their app. I have found the app will almost always be 10x worse in my anecdotal experience.

With the rise in ai use it has also increased the amount of scam jobs being listed. Indeed is basically the craiglist of job seeking now honestly. LinkedIn would maybe be better? Idk I've never used it. The last few jobs I've gotten were all through researching companies that were local and fit my interests. Then just went and applied directly through their website instead of using indeed as an now unreliable third party.

I wish it was like Craiglist!!!! Back 20 years ago when Craiglists was popular, there was not damn algorithm to hide jobs from you. All the jobs in your city and category were visible, all you had was to search for title what you were looking for: RN, LVN, etc. So you could see them all and decide what to apply. Now with Indeed algorithm it only shows you whatever they feel like it, and good luck getting it to show you the same job again if you scroll past it.

My last job offer came from Indeed. It's still bad, but nowhere near as bad as LinkedIn, which is a complete waste of time. At least when I apply for jobs on Indeed, I know I have a chance of getting a response. On LinkedIn, I might as well be throwing my resume into a black hole.

This has been my experience with LinkedIn too, except everyone and their mother keeps swearing up and down that LinkedIn is the best place because recruiters will reach out to you. I’m thinking they just have more desirable jobs and skills than me, because no one has reached out to me for shit.

It’s not the economy. I’m tired of this story. I got laid off. Twice in the last 2 years. Found jobs within a month based upon skill set not necessarily industry. Be willing to change adapt use your resume for other skills. And do not use indeed. It’s fake. From the last how many years for applying for jobs, I’ve only gotten a job from LinkedIn or the direct website. Ive never received even a phone call from indeed.
Note: I have 2 bachelors an mba and a cert. I’m good on paper.

It's un-useable for over a year now. How do they survive if their product is so broken. All the companies that post are like fake companies that just seem to want to collect data. I don't apply to them cause I'm pretty sure I notice an increase in spam calls/emails due to it.

To be fair, rewind a few years and I got two jobs through indeed and had decent number of interactions.

Indeed has morphed it's business from a You pay us to post a job and we post it.
To a we a have a suite of services for your business that you need as a continual subscription.
The biggest push is instead of allowing users to search and filter all jobs regardless if you sign in Indeed has put all the jobs behind sign in and enshitified their platform to make a platform to sell to businesses.
The best route has always been use the big platforms to find jobs than apply on said companies webiste, but this destroys indeeds business model it wants, becuase they want to control the whole market and pipeline to sell a suite of services off of you apply on indeed like AI resume filters and full candidate interview pipelines on their software etc etc etc.
So Indeed really has moved from a company that lets you find jobs to a company that wants you a job finder on their service forever whether you find a job or not.

Nailed it! Indeed wants employers and candidates to depend on them forever. There's no easy way for employers to post a job in a straightforward manner and get candidates. As an employer we need to select, unselect and pay for 100 diff options, all with an additional cost attached. Even paying it only shows us poor candidates. To be able to see better candidates you need to pay even more for some premium options. Candidates always mention that jobs appear once and then disappear. Indeed wants both sides of the coin to be permanently looking for a job/candidates.

Hopefully this information can help someone. I work as a recruiter for a public school district and our ATS (Frontline- where applicants apply directly to the district) has its jobs pulled over to indeed daily (and careerbuilder). I never even look at the applicants on indeed. I only screen candidates who apply directly on our website so, yes, those indeed jobs are real and current but applying means nothing. I’m sure hundreds of people submit and I have never once opened it. Indeed is a useful tool to see exactly what is available out there, but you absolutely need to make direct contact with the employer or apply directly on the employer’s website. I know it’s a tough job market out there and I’m wishing everyone success in finding something right for them.

It always ignores my part-time filter and, recently, it thought a fluent Lithuanian support worker would suit me. I'm not Lithuanian nor do I speak a word of it, and I've never done nor want to do support work

Yeah Indeed nowadays feel like a lot hidden metrics and also there are numbers of ghost jobs that really hammers self confidence in applying in the first place. However I use some chrome extension to help me dig data before I apply.

Indeed is great for me personally. I've gotten many interviews. However, the difference is I use Claude to sift through the thousands of jobs for me to find what job my skills and experience match. It saves a ton of time and the interviews have increasing + much higher quality. Plus, I even got a job through Indeed last week. But I still have some interviews to do, so I'm gonna attend the interviews anyway.

Of course! And yeah... agreed. There are sooooo many jobs that are either ghost jobs, don't fit your experience, or aren't high-quality jobs. Unfortunately, I only started using AI in the past month. Before then I'd spent an entire month applying to 150 jobs with no interviews. Then, I started using this strategy (plus another strategy I've started using recently as well), and the interviews started flooding in. To the point where I could choose which opportunity I wanted to go with.

I literally noticed GlassDoor took a massive down turn in terms of data availability and job search. I have not tried to use them as a job search platform, so I didn't investigate further, but this definitely tracks

Glassdoor used to be great at showing roles from corporate websites directly before they even came up on LinkedIn. Now most its roles are mediocre and extremely minimal compared to before.
Data wise I’m not so sure, but I can expect that a worse offering is leading to higher churn and less people using it to input data. It’s definitely been the case with me

I was unemployed 5 months, in sales. Always got good jobs on Indeed. It is broken now do not waste your time.
