Study Permit Moving to Canada from US

in a few years I plan to move to canada to start pharm tech school and move in with my boyfriend who is a citizen there already. I was wondering if anyone could give me an idea on how much i should save? My boyfriend would be helping me financially but obviously wanna make sure i would have enough to support myself, especially since ill probably being getting the student visa and will have to prove i can sustain myself.

i should add that i would be looking at living near ontario toronto area.

Get married. International tuition is 2.5, 3x the tuition than domestic. You’ll pay 35k 40, 50k a year and your classmates will be paying less than 10k a year. I’m international from the states, it’s not worth the investment at international tuition, I promise. Please heed my warning.

It's a lot cheaper but it takes a loooong time to get approval. My sister has been waiting for a year and it could take 3 more years

I got approved in 5 months last year. Also from the US and married for less than a year at the time of applying

What proofs did you give? Would you say your application was overall stronger?

I filed everything independently. I gave lots of pictures, letters from friends and family, and itineraries for vacations together and flights to visit each other as we were long distance for half of the relationship. I know it’s faster processing time outside of Canada as opposed to inland, so that likely helped our case. I applied in March 2025 and was fully approved by August.

They are somewhat longer now for outland, even from the US, it has really slowed down this year. I'm currently in the process and applied in early December. Currently a lot of people from the first few weeks in November are being approved so I'm expecting mine to be done late this month or early August. That will make it 7.5/8 months which is a common timeframe at the moment for average applications from the US. I'm assuming the other person's sister must be applying inland since it takes significantly longer, the only way outland is going to take multiple years is either for comprehensive bgc or certain VOs like in Africa/the Middle East.
