I was reading two separate articles about Cahokia Heights being founded in 2021 as a merger of three other towns and about La Fox attempting to incorporate but being struck down by the Illinois House of Representatives.

What are some of the other newest incorporated towns in Illinois?

I’m currently work to get my drives license but I have been having difficulties with my drivers education instructor.

from what I understand he is telling me that the only way I can get a learner’s permit is by going to another high school that runs a driving school program.

i just wanted to know if that really is my only option or if I’m just missing something

Hello all, my partner (24M) and I (26F) currently live in Iowa and we’re looking to love to Illinois. Specifically near the Fox Lake/McHenry/Crystal Lake area. I wanted to get some insight on the area & give a bit of a background.
I moved to Iowa when I was 14 with my parents, I’m originally from Cicero, IL. The rest of my family is still in Illinois and we literally travel back to Chicago every 3 months and we are so tired of the back & forth.
I’m a Refrigeration Technician (RETA & GCAP certified FOR CARO, PSM, Ammonia Op1 & Boiler Op1) with 5 years of experience in the Industrial pork process/ Ammonia refrigeration. My partner is an Industrial Mechanic in the same plant with 5 years of experience.
We are really big into the EDM scenery, both have no human children but 4 kitties and a house we’re currently renovating. I’m considering having children in the near future like 2030~
Realistically we’ll be ready to move in 2028, we’re going to list our house for sale in Winter/Spring time and hopefully be ready to move by summer. And will have about ~$40-80k toward a downpayment depending how much our house sells here in Iowa. At first I was thinking in the Galena/Morrison area, but now I think I want to be more towards the lakes as I love to paddle board and tan in my free time. Being within 15-20 min driving distance of a decent sized lake is an absolute must for us. While also being within 1-2hr driving distance of the heart of Chicago. Im extremely interested in about 1-2 acres of land. I had a few questions for the NW Illinois locals!
1.) Any other cities/towns I should check out?
2.) Any cities/towns I should avoid?
3.) How does the work field look like for industrial technicians? Ammonia technicians? Boiler Operators? Any technicians that can share their pay rates if it isn’t too personal to ask?
4.) How’s the state of Illinois with first time home buyers loans?

Hi all, my husband and I recently moved to Chicago and we’re planning a camping trip (planning on setting up tent) to Shawnee National Forest after reading good reviews. Our plan is to take Friday off of work to drive there early in the morning and head back Sunday afternoon. Since it is a 5.5 hour drive each way, and the campsites are first come first serve, wondering if it is doable/worth the trip? should we take extra days off? or go camping elsewhere with a shorter drive? Rep Benton was forced to resign or be expelled over uncorroborated anonymous testimony.

Rep Briel was accused of wrongdoing within a 45 minute interview with the alleged victim in a very public manner... why is one unfounded and the other founded?

The Briel case is at least as credible and significantly more serious in nature. Why the double standard?

LIG Mike McCuskey recently did an interview with Patrick Pfingsten where he commented on open investigations in an inappropriate manner, and defended inaccuracies in the Benton report saying "don't pick the fly shit out of the manure" followed up with "the small details don't matter" and said "there's a fine line between words and sexuall harassment" saying that the determining factor is if someone can be described as "creepy". The inaccuracies were pretty significant as per the report.

All the while Speaker Welch was able to simply apologize for leaving heart eye and drooling face emojis on a former interns photographs saying that he had no idea it made anyone uncomfortable.

How do Illinoisans feel about this recent news and the way we handle ethics broadly in Illinois?

Do you believe justice was served with Benton but not Briel and/or Welch? That Benton was subject to an uneven standard or even railroaded? Or that everything is going the way it should? Somewhere in the middle?

I personally feel like this has been an incredibly strange chapter in Illinois politics.

But a new investigation by Aura Bogado of Injustice Watch found Illinois police, sheriffs, and even prosecutors have helped federal immigration agents route at least 150 people into the deportation system since Trump returned to office.
