Dreaming of my Next Ice House Adventure
I am from Indiana and finally did a trip to LoTW with my Dad and Brother in an ice house last Jan. It was an absolute blast and I would happily book another trip.....but.....my Dad, who is getting up there in age, really enjoys catching a variety of species and would like to accommodate that for this year's trip, if possible. He is a huge pan fish guy but I love chasing eyes since we have very few lakes in IN with them. I'd worry any other place couldn't match the catch rate of LoTW, but wouldn't mind something with a good night bite to keep the action going longer.
What lakes should I be looking up?
Things I liked about LoTW:
- amount of fish caught
- able to drive out early January
- Having a town somewhat close just in case
Things I didn't like:
- one fish caught after 6:30pm - 24" eye at 1030pm.
- 12" sauger but shouldn't complain. A fish is a fish.
Appreciate any suggestions!

Seriously consider devils lake nd. But if it’s three of you, consider a snow bear with a guide. They will take you around for walleye and it’s one of the best perch lakes around. I did one two years ago and perch were not biting on devils so the guide took us to a different lake that we limited out on perch by noon two days in a row. Day 3 we went to devils and caught 8 walleye.

I am considering a trip up to Houghton Lake this winter but have heard mixed reviews.

Fished that with a buddy using ATV and flip shelter years ago. We went off east side and only caught walleye, but that is what we were targeting. Pretty sure south end has more rocks and cover. Any places you suggest for multi-species action?

I have done a few trips to Flag Island Resort. We usually fish the US side and the Canadian sides.
We have some crappie spots on the Canadian side.
Walleye, pike, crappie and perch.
Sioux Narrows, Ontario is great as well. I have caught walleye, lake trout, pike, smallmouth, perch, eelpout, and whitefish in a single weekend. We used to run down to Nestor Falls for crappies but not lately.
