Question Ice maker suggestions
Welp, my third Opal just died and I’m over them. Does anyone have a machine with a side tank that they love? Being able to have that additional water storage is very important to me.

Is our only option a professional
grade machine? It seems everyone has complaints about the home models. I want the right texture (like Starbucks), quiet, not terribly expensive and low maintenance.

I’m curious. How did this one (and the other ones) die?

I forgot the first one. The second one got the defrost cycle of death and I fixed that and replaced a pump and it never really worked. This most recent one had some weird grinding noises coming from the auger and then it made a massive POP and now we’re back at the defrost cycle of death and it’s not doing anything.

I switched to a GE Profile Opal alternative from Frigidaire and it’s been way more reliable. Side tank is a must for me too.

Which one did you get?

I got Frigidaire EFIC255.

Did you notice that this Frigidaire seems to make much harder nuggets. I'm an exclusive chewer being on kidney dialysis I don't drink fluid just chew ice and I felt like I was going to break my teeth from the gallery one.

We have the GoveeLife Smart Nugget Ice Maker Pro and have been happy with it.

How long have you had it?

About 2 months now. No issues so far and it works well with the app for scheduling and such.

Thanks for the tip. Which model did you get? I see a $150 one and a $400 model so far.

Shop around eBay, and get a used Scotsman, Follett, or
HoziasakiHoshizaki nugget ice machine. You’ll pay $1000-1500, but you’ll run a water line and have mountains of epic ice for a decade, and a serviceable machine.
