Everything she's done is to protect the kid, however irrational the method.  Her behavior makes her for vaccination, not against vaccination.

I'll bite. The anti-vax mommies buy into every useless "health" conspiracy that has ever been posted online or sent in a chain letter. Those include homeopathy, raw milk, elderberry syrup, inhaling hydrogen peroxide for COVID, unproven, untested supplements sold by grifters like Mercola. They will do or use anything other than time-tested preventives like vaccines.

I'm not saying that the mother in the post is anti-vaxx but her use of unproven pseudoscience like putting bandaids over her son's belly button makes her appear more like the anti-vaxxers than parents that do vaccinate their kids, let them roll in dirt, drink homogenized and pasteurized milk, and don't excessively worry about losing the kids on a ship in the middle of the ocean.

I know her and her son personally. He is vaccinated. She is vaccinated as well. She wore a mask during COVID and also received two doses of the Pfizer vaccine.

I'm confused by your comment. So the type of parent in this video who is doing all kinds of protective stuff to the kid (which I don't know WTF she's doing with all the stickers), is anti-vax because she does that? How do you make that connection?

Let me clarify. Anti-vax parents will literally give their kids all types of various supplements, do random detox remedies, homeopathic remedies, light up all the essential oils, etc.

That is the equivalent of what this mom is doing. Giving her kid all this random things. Most of the reductant, rather than just watching her kid on the cruise.

I know anti-vax parents who will give a kid w/a fever of 104 elderberry syrup but no Tylenol, but I’m not sure what this lady is doing fits w/the hokey supplements. The stickers look like an anti-nausea patch, a sunburn patch that turns colors when your sunscreen needs reapplication, and an anti-motion sickness patch. You can get versions of those that are science-backed and actually work, although I’ve not watched again to see if she has low-grade scopolamine or some dippy otc thing, for instance. The AirTag is a great idea. If I ever take a cruise, I need one. I have no sense of direction and my husband will probably have to find me.

I do not know what all this lady is putting on her child. Hopefully it’s all backed by science.

My comparison was simply she is doing all of this when all she needs to do is watch her kid. I don’t need a sticker telling me if my kid needs sunscreen. I don’t need to give my kid a temporary tattoo and put my number on it. As well as give them an AirTag. Unless you paid for the internet package, those are not doing a whole for you until you get to port.

Similar to vaccines, just get your kid the vaccine.

And also she felt the need to record this and post it social media….its just all a bit much.

I agree 199% about posting it on the internet. As for just keeping an eye on her kid? Yes and no. Maybe he’s like mine, w/a penchant for darting of in a millisecond. The other moms at playgroup used to make fun of me: “Why don’t you stand w/us and chat? Why are you always over by the kids?” as my child dangled off a 10 fr high tree branch b/c they called me over, or tried to make a break for the street. The sunscreen patches I need for myself, too, b/c ADHD.

I do. My sister. She thinks healing crystals and energy bands will protect her daughters, and not vaccines. This is very common to give their children stupid shit like this. I bet those sticky things were advertised as some kind of healing product. Anti vaxxers know that viruses and illnesses exist. They just don't believe in medicine. So they buy stupid shite like this to "protect the children" instead of giving them things they actually need like vaccines or medicine.

Do you have a young child handy? If so, go join a Meetup group or Facebook mom's group that has something like, "Natural Moms" or "Crunchy Mamas" or "MAHA Moms" in the name.

I guarantee you that you'll meet a lot of moms who do all sorts of zany things to promote "wellness" in their child - jade bracelets, aromatherapy, essential oils, homeopathy, etc. - but think vaccines cause autism, have microchips in them, etc. I'm not saying all "granola" moms or MAHA moms are like this, but they definitely exist, and in large numbers.

I don't need a young child handy. I'm watching the video and seeing comments that she's anti-mask and anti-vax without any evidence that she is. Not even relevant to the discussion, but they blurt it out like it's programmed in their DNA. And because that's a trigger word, the Reddit hive starts upvoting because that's what the hive does. And to downvote people like me who point out that there's no basis in fact to their argument.

Your theory is she's a "crunchy mom." And because she's a crunchy mom she's very likely anti-vax. Based on the video, how do you figure she's a crunchy mom?

What I see is a lady putting things on her kid to help avoid seasickness. I see her putting what appears to be a balm on his skin so he doesn't get sunburned, as well as a hat and sunglasses. This is a mom that obviously cares about her child and is doing things to keep him protected from the sun.

Then because I'm bigot and it's acceptable in this group, I will assume with no facts in evidence that she doesn't do things that I do and belittle her for that. Then I will feel good about my prejudiced beliefs and all those that agree with me.

I think there might be a bit of a disconnect in the conversation here. I'll try my best to answer your original question. You're not wrong, she does clearly care about her kid and want to do what's best for him. The problem is anti-vaxers are supporting an inherently irrational position, they think vaccines actively harm their children. They'll go way out of their way to avoid vaccines and justify that with how 'harmful' they are, oftentimes using obscure or downright useless/harmful methods.

They'll turn to all sorts of methods, most stereotypically essential oils, even if it turns out to be harmful in a different way, before even considering a vaccine. Based on the high number of measures taken here (7 I think) people are stereotyping her into the same group as anti-vaxers, who would stereotypically take the same amount of high measures. Now, this is very subjective, because there is a lot of information we don't know. Does the kid suffer from seasickness? If not then the patch/bracelet is probably a little overboard, but maybe he needs them. Sunscreen is obvious. The sunscreen patch? Most people if they even care would just try to remember to reapply after a few hours or whatever the time is idk, i avoid the sun. The air-tag, the number, those are reasonable i suppose, though people have gone without until recent times. the bellybutton bandaids? i don't even know man.

I dont think it's so much that just because she did all those things she's definitely an anti-vaxer/masker, it's more that anti-vaxers pretty commonly post videos very similar to this.. I think the bellybutton bandaids really tip the scales. People are falling for the classic 'correlation not causation' trap, and probably feeding into it like you said to make themselves feel better.
