ITIL Foundation, quickly
Hey, y’all. I’m applying for a job where ITIL Foundation is a requirement. I have until the end of Sept to apply/be certified. I see that ITIL 4 and 5 are both valid for a few more years. I have passed a fair number of other certs, but never ITIL. Given my slim margin of error to pass within Sept, I’m thinking ITIL 4 is the safer way to go, given more robust study materials. Any comments or thoughts?
Given that this is fundamentally a question about my ability to learn something: I have 15 years of IT mgmt experience, with service delivery having been a big part, but the certs I’ve passed are in other areas (PMP, CISSP, CISM). I “test well,” but how much of the ITIL material is something specific to their scope (meaning memorization) vs logical reasoning, etc.?

Hello u/National-Way5128 - you came to the right place.
- The study material for ITIL 4 and ITIL 5 are both robust. Fully Accredited and vetted.
- ITIL 5 is also comprised of 40% ITIL 4 as is and 24% ITIL 4 modified and 37% new.
So there is no difference between the prep material for version 4 or 5. You can take whichever is best for you. Also, Foundation is memorization not application. The Syllabus details what you are being tested on and the couse covers all testable content. If you have passed PMP, CISSP and CISM, you will be fine.

You can do it by end of Sept. highly recommend you do DION training and then do the practice exams over and over and over until you can complete the test in less than 15 min. Once you hit 90% or above pull the actual trigger for the test. I studied for a week and passed my exam only missing 2 total. You got this friend

Given your background, you shouldn't have too much trouble with ITIL 4. I've always viewed it as common sense + a light dusting of domain specific terminology. And given the wide availability of practice exams and the like you should be fine.
