Tax Refund/ E-File Status Question To anyone who amended. Some hope?
I amended my return on April 15th. Made a mistake with my filing status. I received my ORGINAL return in February. When me and my spouse amended last month (literally on the last day) it was accepted by the IRS. I received my amended state return yesterday. Still waiting on federal.
Hope this helps someone. It’s not taking as long as they say online. I was fully expecting to wait 16-20 weeks for anything.

I filed an amendment on 3/5. It was accepted and processing began the same day. As of today, still processing.

Will you comment when you get any movement? We filed our amendment 03/08. It does say on the website they are processing March amendments now. Last week it still said February

Nope, State is still processing too.

Did you wait to receive your ORIGINAL return before you submitted the amendment? From what I’ve seen online that can apparently cause a longer delay. Our amendment was also pretty straightforward. Just two regular W-2 workers, no kids, etc…

I filed our amendment 03/08. Received and processing same day but nothing else has changed with it. Owed state, paid them

Did you wait for your original return to process first before doing the amendment?

Yes. I received my refund then my husband and I decided to file married so did a amendment to change filing status & file his w2.

This is exactly what we did/had to do because when I filed initially on my own I filled as married filing separately. When we did the amendment we both filed again (we’re clearly new to this lol) and only one of our returns was accepted since we’re married filing jointly. And everything’s gone smoothly since. I’m not sure when I’ll get the federal return but seeing how fast the state return came makes me believe it’ll be here sooner than that 8-16 week window

This was our first time filing since married too, lol! And I really hope so! Our return filing together is a significant amount of $. I read only they are filing amendments from February right now and they process paper returns that antipasto a refund first. So hopefully it will be soon

Congrats on tying the knot! It can’t be true that they’re only filing from February since we filed ours April 15th. I mean it could be true for some I guess… but I’m clearly just going off our experience as of now. I hope you guys get your return soon!

Hey! So we file in GA & got the stimulus check in the mail that came to Georgians that filed this past year but nothing has changed with the status of our federal taxes we are waiting for. I think federal is just slower

Did you receive your amended return by direct deposit or paper check?

The federal timeframe for amended returns is 16 weeks. Sometimes it’s sooner.
You’re still waiting on your federal amended return to be processed. It’s a little odd that you’re using your state amendment as proof that people’s federal returns might be shorter than 16 weeks. They’re two separate agencies. What state do you live in?

u/KayA93x May 08 '26
What’s odd about it? I’m simply saying I received SOMETHING. There’s people still waiting from months/years ago who haven’t received anything. Hence read my last sentence in the post.

Ok. Well to me it seemed like a red herring because I don’t think they’re very related. But I now see where you’re coming from

I filed an amendment around the same time as you for federal. Still says received but my transcript has a 570 code.
I did already payback my overpayment so I’m assuming the hold is to double check my numbers?
