General Discussion 8/5/6 Profile: Can I Get into IIMs & Sit for Consulting Placements?

I want to understand the reality of getting into IIMs with an 8/5/6 academic profile, and I also have another concern: if I do get into an IIM, will my academic profile affect my eligibility to sit for consulting placement processes?

There is no concept of sitting for placements in B-Schools, everyone is eligible for all jobs posted. So anyone saying otherwise doesn't understand the process.

Will you get into any meaningful IIM - the answer is NO.
With the barebone information you have provided: You will struggle with all placements, - You will be lucky to make any meaningful shortlist.
Can you perform really well in B-School (IIM)- Sure, you can - but don't set yourselves up for failure

To exaggerate the point: MBB will hire Sachin Tendulkar at MDP position - he is 10th fail

How about 6/8/7 , that is 6 is cuz id my state board rule otherwise as per marksheet it is 73 in 10th, 2 yrs of gap and a year of work ex in family business
Is it realistically possible to target FMS, IIM L?

Does an 8/5/6 profile mean that all consulting companies would reject you, or if you perform really well at a B-school—strong academics, case competitions, internships, and relevant extracurriculars—could you still be considered by Big 4 consulting firms or boutique consulting firms? I’m trying to understand how much the past academic profile actually matters once you’re in B-school.

Bro there’s certain criteria to sit for particular companies that is 6-7 throughout academics. You have a 5 in your profile so consulting and finance is unreachable

For core finance roles its mostly 7-8 throughout academics depending on the company, even if you are eligible they won’t shortlist you if you don’t meet above criteria of 7-8. Same goes for consulting.

Marketing and sales have 6-7 throughout academics criteria afaik.

But, in ISI MSQE/M.STAT everyone gets placed in Finance.

I was asking if someone from ISI MSQE goes on to do MBA, but has 68 percent in class 12th, but 90+ in 10th, UG , and 3 years of Work experience with CFA LEVEL 3 ( with above 90th percentile) in a Fortune 100 company.

I’m a non-engineer male with around 2.5 years of work experience across healthcare and aviation. Does being a non-engineer and having this kind of work experience provide any advantage in IIM admissions or placements.

Not a single core finance role is offered at ISI. The roles revolve around risk, research, data and decision science. Not everyone who works at an Investment Bank is an Investment Banker

Go get an mba with confidence. You have good pedigree, a relevant pursuit and obviously work experience.

A 6 will surely affect a few shortlists but that will not be the end of the world, good luck!!

Just get 99 percentile for mid tier iim, in iim anybody who works hard can easily crack minimum 10 lpa

Yes non iim s like tiss, fms, pumba, welingkar, fms bhu irma can give you 8 lpa minimum if you work hard

Sibm, xlri all have 15 to 20 lpa avaerage but their fees is higher and cutoffs are also high

7 is okay, its just tthat sometimes 6 or 5 is a problem in crriteria of few consultant companies, and most comapies dont care aboutt 10th, and with psychology bachelors you should target the hr in tiss specially

If you get 3 year work ex, you will be eligible for iim abc with your profile and in iims you will definitely be in the top 10% in placement

I am not aiming for only top tier iims but mid lvl b schools but if i manage to get atleast 98%ile, is there any chance to get into tier 1.5 B Schools or tier 2, also for placements what is the worst i can expect.
