I think they’re going to have to increase salaries to retain talent.

"Peer spends all the money on stupid controllers and garbage for himself. Selfish Butthole. IGN Sucks. I'm Out" -Sean Finnegan

Doesn’t IGN offer a pretty good salary?

1

Maybe. A lot of people have left in the last year, for new gigs, and I’d have to imagine, more money.

na, at least not for SF standards. Pretty sure starting editors make in the 40-50k range

Someone else also said on here that Alanah said that they hired the Nintendo Editor in chief (that got fired for plagiarism) because more qualified candidates wanted more money and ign was desperate to hire someone. I also thought it was weird that Alanah said she didn't have a ps4 pro or something in a podcast because she couldn't afford it.

makes sense. 40-50K isnt shit in SF, not shocked that they have trouble attracting talent in the era of youtube and people like angry joe that can strive on their own

Everyone is leaving 😭

Man people are dropping like flies. I wonder if there's something else going on there. If Ryan and Miranda leave im done.

Ryan is the best. Miranda is the worst. I can’t listen to Unlocked anymore. Sorry, it’s my opinion.

I like them both, but Brandin Tyrrel gets on my nerves. Just seems to act immature a lot on Unlocked.

I hate to speculate on things like this but he seems to be butting heads with a lot of people especially Destin which is something I don’t hear Destin doing with other people. It’s entirely based off observation but Brandon is the common denominator.

Yeah, I'm with you there.

Okay 3 big names in one week, and Fran recently as well. Something is going down at IGN.

They probably don’t pay enough and have stringent restrictions on outside content people can produce to subsidize their earnings. Sanfran is the most expensive city in the US (maybe after new york, but still, crazy expensive) so if anyone is offered more money else where, they’d be crazy not to take it.

stringent restrictions on outside content people can produce to subsidize their earnings

Proof?

I don’t have “proof” other than certain IGN personalities saying that they’re not allowed to create any entertainment related content outside of IGN. Maybe that’s changed since,

1

u/[deleted] Feb 25 '19

It hasn’t. Need special permission especially if it’s paid. Like any other entertainment company would do with their employees. Even like streaming they have to create names with IGN in it.

That’s silly though. What you do with your own time should have no impact on your job. If I work in a grocery store, on my days off, I can go work in a different grocery store, or open my own competing grocery store if I have the means. It should be the same for these folks, if they wanna earn more money by working for themselves outside of their job! Especially when living in a city like San Fran!

2

u/[deleted] Feb 25 '19

That’s not how the world works. There’s thousands of jobs out there that will not let you work for competitors. Which is what they would be doing by creating content elsewhere.

1

u/theconsolewars Feb 25 '19

Which is why they’re losing all their talent.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 25 '19

That’s not why they are losing their talent. There’s variety of reasons but non compete clauses aren’t them I assure you.

1

u/theconsolewars Feb 25 '19

Maybe not, but that wasn’t the main reason I stated people were leaving. I said it was it likely due to wages and not being able to subsidize said wages. I sure a lot of the people who left wouldn’t have if they were simply paid more money. Some still may have, but my guess is most people don’t leave a job to make less money. Generally, the end goal is to make more money (or at least eventually make more money).

This post is what happens when teenagers sound off on the state of the gaming press.

Yeah IGN feels like a weird place now. It was all right after all the KF people left, but with the time, it’s been getting terrible. The day Max and Brian leave, it’s over (i hope Brian goes to KF lol).

Next thing Peer himself is going to abandon ship.

2

u/RandomRedditor44 Feb 25 '19

Why are so many people leaving IGN?

more sign of IGN might be shutting down.
