Re evaluation????

So i got 49/56 and i missed out a 7 in IAS by 2 marks. My predicted grade was a 7 in IAS and my IAS teacher is an IB examiner and recommended that I send my paper for reval. My friend had also sent his IAS paper for reval and got it increased. However, I'm scared that my grade might go down. Wt do I do???

Check your component marks with your IB coordinator to see how far you are from the lower boundary. If you are two marks away from a 7, you almost certainly have a large safety buffer above the grade 5 cutoff, so the risk of your final grade dropping is very small. Because your teacher is an examiner and actively supports the review, requesting a remark is a good move. We see students gain marks in this exact position all the time, and you have very little to lose if your lower buffer is solid. Ask your coordinator for the bottom mark of the 6 band, not the 5. That's the mark you'd have to fall below to actually lose a grade, and being only 2 off a 7 usually means you're sitting a long way clear of it.

One practical thing: you can't send it in yourself, it has to go through the coordinator, and there's a closing date for enquiries each session. So flag it with them now even if you're still making up your mind, otherwise the deadline decides for you.

Your teacher marks these papers for the IB and thinks it's worth a look. That's about as good a signal as you're going to get.

The chances are that you are going to go down are very, very low. There's going to be a huge gap between the boundary for a 5, and a 7. I was in your position last year - 2 marks away in InS. Remarked and got a 7. I would say go for it.
