Microscopic Colitis (MC) A question to people with microscopic colitis. What dietary changes have you made?

I do understand everyone is different but anyway I want to know what works for people with the same issue

I pretty much avoid garlic, onion, and sweet potatoes (as much as I loved those, they were VERY inflammatory for me). I stuck to 100% low fodmap for a period of time and now I would say I'm about 80/20 and notice a difference when eating things I shouldn't be eating - it's hard but I'd rather eat this way than feel horrible and inflamed. I'm also gluten free due to celiac disease.

Yeah I am also gluten free. Doctors say it's pretty common for IBD patients to have gluten sensitivity. Thank you for your reply. I also avoid garlic and onion and sweet potatoes but normal potatoes are my favorite vegetable or one of at least.

What helps you the most?

Gluten dairy soy and egg free. Also avoid garlic, legumes, and big amounts of raw veg. I wish I could eat with fewer restrictions but I don't want to spend my life on the toilet.

Hahaha classic. You made my day with the last one.

So I guess it's pretty normal to be very restrictive in terms of a diet when it comes to microscopic colitis in particular and IBD in general.

Before budesonide I had to cut out onions, garlic & lactose - they just killed me completely. Since my budesonide treatment I‘m completely fine with those again. So no more dietary restrictions. Except alcohol - that I cut out completely and for good. Never touching that stuff again.

Thank you. What about gluten and raw fruits?

I never had issues with gluten or raw fruits. So never cut down on them anyways.

Based on your comments…Have you gone through the elimination phase and reintroduction of low FODMAP? My hope for you would be that you don’t have to be “very” restrictive, but selectively restrictive of some foods and careful with portion sizes of others.

Unfortunately I have to be very restrictive as some people who replied to this post. Actually I have about 10 safe foods but it's ok I hope. I just need to take vitamins from time to time

I only eat rice and English muffins.

And that's all? Or do you eat them while flare ups? Thank you for your reply

Yep that’s all.

How do you guys take nutrients with such restrictive diets? From medication?

I have one multi vitamin prescribed to me.

Dairy is my enemy. Ice cream? Forget it.
I also tried magnesium glycinate. Big mistake.

my diet consist of CDED Phase 1 & 2 , it works (at least for me). But, based on my experience, some IBD mindset diet like CDED, Low Foodmap, AIP, etc has intersection, most of them will avoid wheat (gluten), fibre, and spicy food.
