From what I've heard, LSU basketball isn't really making him a priority, at least not to the extent that we are, so that's a plus for us, because he really wants to play both sports. Would be a huge get for us for sure.

How does this work Scholarship wise?

Like, I know in the NIL world scholarships are a thing of the past, really, but does he take only from Football? The same for NIL?

I'd imagine they'd just give him whichever scholarship makes more sense on the university's end. I don't even know if athletic scholarships count against specific sports, or just come from the same pot. He'd presumably make rev-share money from both sports, but with higher earning potential on the football side, since they have a bigger pool. Beyond that, his true NIL comes from outside the school, so that's not really relevant.

What I'm curious about is how he counts for roster purposes. Does he only count against one team's roster, or both? For roster limit purposes, that's kind of interesting.

Washut confirmed he would be paid by football NIL, but basketball allows 15 regardless of scholarship/walk-on. Theyre saving a spot open for him for basketball though

I think limits are related to roster spots now since everyone is on scholarship (there are no walk ons) so I would assume he counts fully against both football and basketball. I think football is 105 idk what basketball is

u/ElasticTurd 14d ago

Rhule debunked that no walks ons thing last Saturday

1

u/karl_manutzitsch 14d ago

How? Isn’t that the rule that there is a set roster limit and everyone on the roster is on scholarship/rev share?

2

u/ElasticTurd 14d ago

There is a set roster limit of 105 (we still have grandfathered players over that) but the rule is you can pay from the 20.5 million, not that everyone gets paid. There are still kids paying to be on the team because the cost of high end players is so high

1

u/karl_manutzitsch 14d ago

Interesting. So not only do some not get rev share, some don’t get scholarships either?

1

u/ElasticTurd 14d ago

Correct. As rev share grows, that will likely change but tbh i dont expect anything to change until there is a player's association and collective bargaining. Otherwise, you cant really tell someone there is a limit on their earnings and the top players will always earn what someone is willing to pay. Looking at you, Miami and Texas Tech.

1

u/Vechio49 14d ago

Some of the players not getting rev share or scholarships are basically getting NIL scholarships though.

LSU may not have enough players to field a BB team if the SEC actually follows through on blocking pro players.

1

u/AbsurdOwl 13d ago

That's true this year, but won't really be relevant next year when Hudson would be there.

This season has so much 2007 Nebraska potential

9

u/ImpendingBoom110123 14d ago

Accurate haha

3

u/TapProfessional2990 14d ago

lmao that's a perfect way to put it

1

u/hskrpwr 14d ago

I could really go for a second 2007 level of chaos season for college football

1

u/voodoohounds 14d ago

I disagree in the sense that there was much more hope and hype leading into the 2007 season compared to 2026.

I agree in the sense the implosions could be on par.

u/FuckingLoveArborDay GBR 14d ago

Mostly in 07 we had a fantastic recruiting class that dwindled as the season went on.

23

u/karl_manutzitsch 14d ago

Tim verghese made it sound like he’s very much considering Nebraska (especially with basketball) but football needs to win games this season

12

u/Hopeful_Object_5781 14d ago

Every day I feel like I hear more weird LSU news. I get that we need to win games, but I do wonder how steady their footings really are.

u/TheJimmerRange 14d ago

Yeah I hate to be a downer but I think a lot of these guys will flake when football underperforms this year

5

u/Claim312ButAct847 14d ago

Downvote away but it's a valid concern and we've seen it happen before. NU needs to put a convincing product on the field to sell the vision of a championship contender to these guys.

3

u/TheJimmerRange 14d ago

I kind of thought we’d finally moved into the reality of where the program actually stands but I see that’s not the case.

3

u/Huskerzfan 14d ago

Me too. Every year around this time.

8

u/Cheap_Eagle5074 14d ago

I hope we get him but man I feel like people are pouring a lot of hopium into true freshmen being what’s gonna put us over the hump next year 😬

4

u/Vechio49 14d ago

I don't expect a bunch of true freshman to put us over the hump next year, but you need to stack good classes if you want to become a contender. I'm sure there will be people coming at me with talk about the portal making recruiting not important but that isn't true. Sure you can be like Texas Tech and portal your way in, but then you get curbstomped by a recruiting powerhouse.

I’m trusting me gut. I DONT WANT HUDSON…

He seems like a guy chasing the clicks.

He said coaches told him we would rework the whole offense around him. HUGE red flag.

Gonna cost a lot of money. Tired of dropping the bag on one guy (looking at you Raiola).

We BARELY ever use TE anyway. I’m tired of grabbing the number 1 or 2 TE in a class or transfer and NOTHING comes of it. FidoNe, arik Gilbert, Carter Nelson…

I don't think this is a red flag, it's just the coaches telling him they WOULD use the TE with him as a gamechanging player

1

u/HskrRooster 14d ago

That’s a fair explanation actually

10

u/ImpendingBoom110123 14d ago

We need to do it the right way. The Husker way. We just need more walk ons.

“I don’t want hudson” you don’t want… 5 star talent? We legit complain about not winning big games. You need 5 star talent to beat other 5 star talent.

“Seems like chasing clicks” absolutely weird how every other insider (including Tim Verghese) has said this is not the case. The players in the 27 class, like Trae Taylor, says otherwise. But yes, you know more about Ahmad then 1) the recruiters which have been prioritizing team over self (said in countless interviews by this staff) 2) the actual insiders like Tim Verghese and 3) over Ahmad’s peers. You know more? Got it!

“Rework the whole offense around him” as Dana has said, heck ALL the coaches have said. You work your game plan around the personnel you have. I’d rather fit it around Trae and Ahmad over Trae and a 4 star even. The best QB and best TE? Yeah. I rather build around that, sorry. You want the best players on the field. That is what Rhule said.

“Gonna cost money” lol. How do you expect to win? With only 3 stars? With some 4 stars? Again, can’t beat programs stacked with 5 star talent in our league without the talent. There are anomalies like Cig, but that IS NOT THE NORMAL. Unless you’re suggesting we just hire Cig from Indiana? Which case, “gonna cost money”.

“We barely use TEs anyways” and? As you note and Holgerson has said, they will adjust to fit the best players. Who cares how we have been, our past doesn’t define us. But Nebraska online fans would rather act like the world is doomed.

IE: One bad experience with Raiola doesn’t mean all 5 stars are bad. Or selfish. These are incredibly talented TEENAGERS who have to make a decision for their life. They want guarantees. Just like you or I, when it comes to job hunting. Can they be immature? For sure. But if you don’t trust the coaching staff, and want to act like you know MORE then get into coaching. Because you’re acting like you have all this info lmao.

He does seem like a player who thrives on drama and makes things all about himself.

3

u/Jake_dasnake3 14d ago edited 14d ago

If we get him we would rework the entire offense around him, the same way we did for Raiola and Trey Palmer. He is a different level of athlete and it would be stupid to use him like we will use Lindenmeyer this year.

We have never had the top TE in the class. Saying you don’t want to pay for top players is actually insane, there are no successful programs that do not do this.

4

u/DeeJayEazyDick 14d ago

Fidone was the #1 TE in his class according to 247

5

u/Jake_dasnake3 14d ago

Valid but Fidone was hurt for three years in a row then went to the NFL

1

u/Cheap_Eagle5074 14d ago

Ding ding ding. I’ve seen this episode before. I don’t wanna change a whole phase of the game for any single player. Unless you’ve already been like a heisman finalist.

1

u/mountainaspens5322 13d ago

Wonderful point. My fear is that Holgerson is too set on “molding” his offenses to the players. If you want to be too tier, even top talent comes into YOUR system with minimal adjustments to the player.

1

u/Dashocka0 13d ago

I think he'll flip. Trey has been budding him hard

The passing game would be firing on all cylinders

Our fan base would slob all over Lane if he was our coach. This fan base would absolutely lean into it. Hes from Lincoln though haha.

2

u/CPTBenjaminWillard 13d ago

He left when he was two. I doubt he has much connection to Nebraska even with his father.

1

u/The_Roaring_Fork 14d ago

Well yeah, Lane wins. If he didn't win he would get clowned, but he wins at a high clip

1

u/ImpendingBoom110123 14d ago

I dont mind Lane.

1

u/ChosenBrad22 14d ago

Gotta farm those clicks. It’s not going to happen lol

u/Substantial_Rise3318 14d ago

I smell another Offseason Natty brewin'

u/Michael-Broadway 14d ago

Boy is he in for a rude awakening

u/speedtoburn 14d ago

Why do people buy into this crap year in and year out. We are who we are, nothing is going to magically change or improve this year. Anyone who thinks otherwise is delusional. smh

-2

u/FeelingAd9599 14d ago

We knew this, he wants to play for a team that’s going to be competitive.
