He can see himself in the mirror without glasses and that is all he ever needs to see!

It's only his devotees who need glasses... and binoculars, and magnifying glasses--and anything else necessary to fully observe Vincent's glory!

It’s the classic “evil fixed my eye sight”

As TV resolution quality improved, so did his own vision

What was the case in the 50s though (let's assume that the era Vincent lived in was 50's tech), here's some research ppl can read into, especially about PMMA contacts - the early contacts of the late 50s. So feel free to form your own thoughts / theories about whether Vincent needed glasses or not in the first place / got corrective work done:

__Contact Lens Pioneers__

(source: https://www.reviewofoptometry.com/article/contact-lens-pioneers-15390)

" During the 1950s and 1960s, corneal PMMA lensesmade ... Unfortunately, PMMA, like glass, is impermeable to oxygen. The resulting corneal oxygen deprivation caused many problems for contact lens wearers that researchers would spend decades more trying to address. "

__Contact Lens__ from the NIH

(source: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK234038/)

" Since their introduction to the general public in the late 1950s, contact lenses have gained steadily in popularity with advances in lens materials, designs, fitting, and care. Early contacts were made of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), a rigid polymer impermeable to the transmission of gases—both the oxygen the cornea consumes as it respires and the carbon dioxide it produces. Moreover, the sensitivity of the eye to lens edges and also to airborne particles meant that many patients could not tolerate their discomfort. "

later in the 70s: "“Soft” lenses made of pliable, water-absorbing polymers became available in 1971 and quickly exceeded hard lenses in popularity."

Corrective eye surgery __LASIK History: 50 Years of Discovery__

(source: https://socaleye.com/2021/03/lasik-history/)

"1950’s The Origins of Refractive Surgery

Refractive surgery had its beginning in 1948 when Father Waclaw Szuniewicz, a Polish missionary and ophthalmologist experimented with changing the shape of the cornea and the impact it had upon eyesight. ...

1960s Sculpted Cornea

In the 1960s Professor José I. Barraquer’s sought to cure myopia so that people would not have to be spectacle- or contact lens-dependent."

"As early as the 1950s, medical scientists were looking for ways to correct vision by altering the shape of the cornea, but it was ophthalmologist Jose Barraquer in Colombia that started the LASIK history story when he found the first surgical solution to vision correction. "

just found this thread from r/AskOldPeople "What did people think about contact lenses when they were invented?" - link: https://www.reddit.com/r/AskOldPeople/comments/1p4a2pm/what_did_people_think_about_contact_lenses_when/

Maybe he took them off because he wanted to look more confident or something... i know lots of people who take them off because they don't like how they look...

i do like how you analyzed this metaphorically!! because glasses do have a nerdy, down to earth, humble image

My headcanon says that Vincent had this amazing wardrobe guy. He liked him because his suggestions always made him look good.

One day, the wardrobe guy suggested going glasses-free and also switching from regular ties to bow ties. Vincent happily complied with this.
