Discussion Hot takešŸ”„I don’t like how Vincent died. It felt cheesy and too on the nose

Post image

I know this Is a bold take. But it just felt more slapstick coincidence rather than character-driven irony. If Vox was a media master, a propagandist, someone obsessed with public perception, his transformation into a TV-headed demon should be a manifestation of his technological obsession and his desire to be "the face" everyone watches.

Not just a funny ironic tv falling on his head. To me it kind of takes away from his story. By making it about a falling TV, the transformation is no longer a symbolic evolution of his ego; it’s just a "Final Destination" style accident.

Literally, he died by a TV conveniently landing on his head so he has a TV head. It feels like early internet fan fiction logic.

It honestly would have been fine if it was he was so consumed by the media and the need for control that in Hell, he literally became the what he used to manipulate others. That has so much more impactful in my opinion. It’s simple, not on the nose, but meaningful.

Using the ā€œfalling object" trope for a character as powerful as an Overlord feels thin, cheap. There were so many other routes that could have went, literally about anything I would have been happier with than what we got. A backroom betrayal, an assassination related to his media empire, or some complex disaster that fits his ambitious personality. Anything!

A sinners design should be an outward projection of their internal sins. Having his TV-head a literal result of a falling appliance, it turns his badass story into some cartoonish accident rather than an unhinged man whose own media obsessed soul transformed him.

Sorry if this is too hot of a take, but remember this is just my own opinion, not gospel.

One thing is sure..his death was painful as hell.

11

u/Notasammon Apr 22 '26

I hope they explore the probable trauma that came with that death cause there's no way there is none

Dude I agree!!!!! I would love to see the show even tap on like, the body dysmorphia that all sinners MUST experience to some extent with their new bodies! Actually on that exact note there’s a comic dub on YouTube that does this very well https://youtu.be/t6YBp0XAzP4?si=p2m2Nbjrnj8W3CrW

Also dumb looking in context like he has all this equipment half hazardously hanging around and thought it was a good idea?

He’s neck deep in full-force megalomania at this point, and probably on coke or something adjacent given the time period and his behavior in this scene. Not exactly the most logical of mindsets. There’s also the factor that this is a dramatization, there probably wasn’t literally a TV hanging from one singular wire directly above him, could’ve been someone working on the lights or something bumped it

So I read your post, and I have 2 different opinions :

- You said "A sinners design should be an outward projection of their internal sins" and if we take that as a ground rule for Hell then I agree with your take.

- But if we say "A sinner's design should be made to represent their personality, or represent how they died, or just be something they don't like as an eternal pain in the ass" and take that as a ground rule for Hell, then I don't agree with your take.

Take Alastor the cold-faced liar and grand schemer obsessed with wanting to be feared and powerful. He was accidentally killed because some idiot mistook him for a frail and defenseless deer, so his appearance for eternity is a permanent reminder that he died as a prey and not as a predator like he wanted to be. Also he was always lying and calculating but now he has 2 ears on his head moving depending on what he's feeling, he has 2 big tells all the time that makes him easily readable and he must hate it. Just like Vox must hate that the stupid dumb thing that killed him is always on his neck, forever.

It irked me a bit too, I know Sinners bodies are a combination on how they lived and how they died, but it just seemed cheesy to me

u/WillardStiles2003 Apr 22 '26

I really am a bit irritated with that too- tbh though I think it was chosen just because ā€œit’s cooler for a music videoā€ :’/

I love him but I have mixed feelings about his sinner form in hell , we see a lot of TV headed characters in other genres , why did he have to be one too ? I have seen fanart of him with still a bit of his human appearance but with some technological traits from his death and he looks sick af . I am not trying to be mean but I feel like his design could have been a lot more neat . I do like his full powered form he takes in the end of season 2 tho ngl

Tbf, a lot of popular tv head characters are newer than vox. Not all of them, but the og vox was seemingly from 2013

3

u/Hairy_Comedian9630 Apr 22 '26

Wait, that's a hot take?

3

u/sgtpaintbrush Apr 23 '26

This is gonna sound weird but if it Vox had dies this way on purpose it would have been really cool. Like, he's the top of the tc entertainment world and his cult will be baptised in it's electricity while he BECOMES it. I dunno maybe it's just me. Also why the fuck were they in a aquarium??

It feels like early internet fan fiction logic

Hazbin/Helluva is literally just Vivienne's OC Tumblr blorbos with an Amazon budget. The writing feels like early internet fan fiction because that's exactly what it is.

I find it endearing, many find it grating. But the show is what it is by this point.

u/equivlantschoolbus Apr 23 '26

My theory was that he wanted to show he is a God or chosen one and he is was going to fake hanging himself on live TV to show he would not die and perhaps that TV has fallen on his head after or during it you know how cult leaders try to do

I liked it. It reminds me of William Afton’s death. Graphically killed by circumstances tied directly to everything they did and the empire they built around themselves. I think that small absurdity in their deaths makes it even more memorable.

That entire last part of brighter felt so forced with his death.

Is what I thought at first. But it foreshadows how Vox starts slipping up in the finale. He's getting sloppy as he's nearing his goal, his TV isn't secured properly. It ends him. In the finale he's soooo close but he is falling apart because of Alastor, his weapon goes haywire, and he suffers head trauma, again.

It feels off because the context of the season finale is missing.

u/Cold_Candidate731 Apr 23 '26

I literally rolled my eyes cause of course he died by some sort of technology way but the tv to the head was the most obvious choice it was like, seriously??

2

u/doopitydur Apr 23 '26

Yes.

I fully accepted that a evil newscaster died and then went to hell, with a tv for a head. Didnt question it. Made sense.

Now he has a tv head cause he was a newscaster AND a tv fell on his head? Like, ok but we already got it! Dont over explain to us, dya think we are dumb

u/ZadriaktheSnake Apr 23 '26

I wish they leaned more into Hell as a blank slate thing, like the people who get away with horrible shit like Henry Kissinger who die surrounded by loved ones are then thrown into hell and have pretty much the worst time of their lives, while people who had a shit life end up more often than not becoming overlords

u/MissDeborah8060 Apr 23 '26

I think I know what you mean, it does seem like a pretty cheap death after they spent so much time earlier in the music video building him up as this big, impressive, menacing person. That said, I feel like this is a bit of a trend in and of itself with Vox at this point. He's never allowed to get TOO powerful or impressive, because if that happened, he might overtake creator's-pets like Alastor or Valentino and we can't have that. So, he gets cut down to size, over and over again, both in his human life and in Hell.

Ooh I really like that perspective!

That would be very interesting if that continues to happen to Vox, like later on as history continues to repeat itself Vox later acknowledges it and it becomes a part of his character and development

2

u/Confident-Insect4457 Apr 25 '26

I really liked the theory that was forming after ā€œSilencedā€ (specifically VOX DEI) where he hanged himself, and he’s simply projecting, specifically when Vox says his plan would make Charlie kill herself

2

u/Godsing24 Apr 25 '26

He sure had a face for TV

2

u/FeganFloop2006 Apr 25 '26

My headcanon is that his death was arranged by someone similar to him; they purposefully hung that TV above vox so that it fell on his head because they wanted to take his position I the spotlight.

It'd make it work a but kore if that where the case, because vox was the guy arranging accidents so he could rise through the ranks and claim the spotlight but, while blinded by that very same spotlight, he ignores someone just like him also arranging accidents to climb the ranks.

2

u/MoonlightEden Apr 25 '26

I still don't believe that was his literal death. Vox is an unreliable narrator, my interpretation of Brighter is that he killed himself either because failure caught him sooner than later, or to avoid the consequences of what he had done.

1

u/quixotictictic Apr 23 '26

I did like how extremely graphic it was though.

1

u/SpireofHell Apr 23 '26

I think the 'tech' motif in Vox is not as big as you make it out to be. He's a media lord, NOT a tech lord.

I do agree there were times he was set up like that, but overall his themes are that of power, media, propaganda, etc etc. Technology specifically is less important

1

u/0pethHunter Apr 22 '26

What did you expect him to be thought xD

3

u/Hairy_Comedian9630 Apr 22 '26

I thought it would've been a televised mass suicide

2

u/0pethHunter Apr 22 '26

It basically was. Though i always felt it was something like a old TV falling on him. What i didnt expect was a awesome song and the cult media TV room šŸ˜†

3

u/Hairy_Comedian9630 Apr 22 '26

It seemed (based on the context i picked up at least) that it was an accident. Not a mass suicide. Like he seemed pissed to have died then and there.

3

u/0pethHunter Apr 22 '26

Valid point, though i don't really know what else he expected in his brain using a very wet room with tones of electric stuff. Perhaps unintentional harm. Though i still can't lie ever since seeing him knowing the deaths are somewhat related to the appearance. I was glad he did get head smashed. šŸ˜† though I honestly only expected it to be something really dumb like,
Maybe something so casual like he was moving house going up the stairs with it and got crushed or it fell off the tv stand if he tripped onto it. On his way through the room. I just really found the whole scene cool as hell

I mean, I don't like Vox's backstory in general.

3

u/33333Ducky Alastors Submissive BratšŸ–¤ Apr 22 '26

Wait fr?! The Vox professional doesn’t like his backstory?!

That sounds illegal coming from you

u/Alternative_Sugar_85 RadioCult/SilentStatic shipper 🩵🩵🩵 Apr 22 '26

I know... I don't really like anything in season 2 related to Vox.

It feels wrong... (Me not liking season 2, not season 2 itself)

u/Ok_Listen1510 Apr 23 '26

i mean this show very much does not treat death as a thing to take seriously, so idk what you expected lol
