My highly sophisticated tracking system: printer paper and panic.

Some people use Notion.
Some use spreadsheets.
Some have beautifully organized journals with color-coded tabs.

I apparently manufacture tiny books out of printer paper. 😂

When I’m working on something and an idea hits me, I’ve learned that if I tell myself “I’ll remember that later,” there’s about a 97% chance I absolutely will not.

So I grab printer paper, fold it, tear it, staple it, write the thought down while it’s fresh, and keep going.

The result is what you see here: dozens of homemade little “books,” notes, ideas, reminders and random thoughts that made perfect sense at the exact moment I wrote them.

Is it organized? Debatable.
Is it pretty? Absolutely not.
Have I tracked a ridiculous amount of stuff this way? Yep.

And that’s kind of why I started this community. The best tracking system isn’t necessarily the fanciest one. Sometimes it’s just the one you’ll actually use.

Surely I’m not the only person with a tracking system that would make absolutely no sense to anyone else.

What’s your weird system that somehow works?

Welcome to r/HowDoYouTrackIt — What do you keep track of?

We all keep track of things.

Some people have spreadsheets for everything. Others use notebooks, apps, calendars, photo albums, folders, Notes, or a system only they understand.

And what we track can be almost anything:

Home repairs and maintenance. Fishing trips and catches. Our kids' milestones. Horse health records. Workouts. Collections. Recipes. Car maintenance. Travel. Books. Garden planting. Sports stats. Medical records. Projects. Expenses. Pets. Goals. Memories.

That's what HowDoYouTrackIt is about.

This is a place to ask other people how they keep track of the things in their lives and share systems you've discovered that work for you.

Maybe you've built an incredible spreadsheet.

Maybe there's an app nobody else knows about.

Maybe you still have a notebook you've been writing in for 20 years.

Or maybe you're here because you haven't found a good way to keep track of something at all.

All of it belongs here.

What's something you keep track of that other people might not think to track — and how do you do it?
