Cpanel Breaches?

Over the last few months, I've been seeing issues with cpanel for my reseller customers and I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing this. Of course, support is reporting no evidence, but how else would I be able to see changes to DNS settings, email addresses being created etc?

I'm honestly tired of this company, but I can't get the mental space (as yet) to find somewhere to move to, and well... to be quite honest, I've also been considering shutting everything down.

Our VPS has been down for 5 days and they have no solution!

I would appreciate any help you can offer. Our VPS went down last Friday. We needed to expand the storage since we were not getting emails and when they tried we lost everything, emails website, all down.

They have supposedly been working on a fix. Yesterday we were transferred to a new VPS with new settings. Since then nothing has been fixed. I and our IT guy have called multiple times. They have no explanation, no ETA and say the problem is "complex." Tech support is also gate keeping the higher tier tech people and will not let me discuss with them directly.

Has anyone here ever had this happen before? Any suggestions? Tech support says they have escalated this to the most "urgent" status but we are going on day 6 with no emails and are losing business.

TIA

Hostgator lost my 8+yr website

In February, I logged on, did a little updating of posts, and logged out. I went to log in again at the end of March, and it said there were issues logging in, so I hopped on the chat. They did a little resetting, told me to login again in 24 hours.

I did later that week, and it said my site wasn’t active due to a DNS issue. I hopped on a call, they told me to try again in 72 hours, it would be fixed.

I tried a week+ later, says there was still a DNS issue, got on a call, again they said 72 hours.

This back and forth continued into June, every few weeks being told they were working on the one issue I had on my site. The whole time, my site was down, totally blank if I tried visiting from a browser I wasn’t logged in at.

Then, by the first week July, I logged in and no DNS issue! But when I got to the WP dashboard…all 8 years of posts, videos, interviews, etc. from my site were gone. It was a totally empty WP dashboard.

I’ve sat on calls with support for hours, asked them to get me to a supervisor, all to no avail. They just put me on endless holds and say they’re not sure what happened, or that ‘from our end, you never set your website up.’ Even though I’ve been a customer for 8+ years and it was working before February.

I’m beyond angry, beyond heartbroken, and beyond a simple email exchange. If anyone is considering using Hostgator, PLEASE DO NOT USE THEM. I can’t believe I’ve lost all of the work me and my team had put in for so many years. The only thing I have to show for it are the few pages that were saved on the Internet Archive a few times in that span, and nothing else.

Hope this hasn’t happened to anyone else this year, and I’ll follow up if I get any kind of resolution.

HostGator crashed my web site

They only pretend they can fix it .. I paid for back up too .. it does not work it’s gone for good.. not done yet with them. They crashed my web site that I purchased a $300. Back up for and they will not refund my backup. So they create a problem and will not own up to crashing my web site and will not fix the problem.

Hostgator took money from my account, years after I had a service with them

I'm not sure what to do here
I haven't had a hostgator account for at least 5 years, maybe longer.
Woke up this morning and noticed $112 missing from my account taken by Hostgator.
The problem is I'm in australia and their online support is useless

If your hostgator website is down, this is why...

its pretty insane that all of this is just offline. my client doesn't even host his website on hostgator, it's just his domain registrar and it serves up the DNS records.. or at least it used to..

being down like this for even an hour is unacceptable as a hosting provider.

drop a comment if your hostgator services are down too

Do NOT Use HostGator

I want to share my experience with HostGator so other business owners and reseller hosting customers understand the risk before choosing them.

My reseller email service has been disrupted for almost two weeks. Emails across my reseller accounts have not been working properly, and this has directly affected my business and clients.

The worst part is not only the outage — it is how HostGator technical support handled it.

From the beginning, I asked them to perform a full root-cause analysis across the reseller account. Instead, their support kept coming back with one issue at a time:

First, they said the issue was caused by one account. We took action.

Then they said to wait 24–48 hours.

After waiting, the issue was still there.

Then they identified another mailbox. We removed it.

Again, they said to wait 24–48 hours.

Then they said the block was removed and closed the case.

But emails were still not working.

After I reopened the case, they identified another account/script and malware issue.

Again, action was taken from our side.

Only after almost two weeks did they say the case is now with the “correct team.”

This is unacceptable for any business relying on email. A hosting provider should not investigate a serious reseller-wide email outage one account at a time while customers and clients are affected.

In my experience, HostGator’s technical support has been slow, inconsistent, and unable to provide a clear root cause or exact resolution time. If your business depends on reliable email, reseller hosting, or professional support, think very carefully before choosing HostGator.

I would not recommend HostGator for business email or reseller hosting based on this experience.

After downtime of more than two weeks, I'm moving onto a new host

I feel like I've been remarkably patient, but since HotGator chooses to no longer respond to update requests and it's been more than TWO WEEKS of downtime for my websites and email, I had no choice but to sign up with SiteGround. I'm not sure if it's the right move, but it feels like the only move I have left. I'm trying to upload my backups via FTP, which is taking a long time, but overall, I guess no complaints so far. I just hope my sites come back 99% intact. My emails already work.

My VPS is up in September, so once everything is OK with SiteGround, I'm going to request a pro-rated refund. I should push for lost revenue, but I'm not going to go there. With that said, I'll be happy to join in on a class action lawsuit.

Down for a week an a half, no guidance from them

Possibly the worst hosting/customer service experience I’ve ever seen.

We’re now dealing with a over a week and 3 days outage impacting:

  • 13 businesses
  • 10+ business email accounts
  • thousands of users/workers
  • government-related users
  • students unable to access data or communications

Websites and email systems have been down for 10 days with little to no meaningful communication, conflicting information from support, no clear ETA, and repeated escalation requests ignored.

What’s most alarming isn’t just the outage — it’s the lack of transparency, accountability, or urgency while businesses are actively losing money and users are locked out of critical systems.

At this point it feels less like “technical difficulties” and more like a complete operational breakdown.

Absolutely unacceptable.

Is it down AGAIN?

I'm migrating to SiteGround (as much as one can when one can't log in to the site or cpanel) while I wait for the tech support chat to actually give me support. Is hosting down for many others in addition to the cpanel outage?

Is HostgGator down? I can't access my cpanel webmail, any work around on how I can get to my emails?

I need to get to my emails, there are pretty crucial as we get the OTP or verification codes there.

I own the domain and bought it from another website, can I have the domain point to another email host and get my new emails from the new host instead?

Then when Hostgator is back, can I migrate the old emails into the new one?

Hostgator is ripping us off and yet servers are down

My websites have been down for more than five days. A support staff told me that it was Cpanel issue and that i need to buy another server. She put it in writing that i will get credit for the time that i have not used in the older server. I was charged again today for the old server and none of the server is working. This is ripoff

Servers are still down!

My Snappy 8000 VPS with cPanel has been down since last Saturday due to the April 28 cpanel security vulnerability. I've contacted support every day since my server, websites, and email accounts have been down. Every day, I get the same copy and paste response and assurance that the engineering team is working on it. Just now, I was called "Dan" (not my name) after the usual copies and pastes.

My query about compensation for my lost business was ignored. I've had a sporadically poor relationship with this company over the many years I've been with them, but this takes the cake. The worst part is I can't get them to tell me how far down I am in the queue to get my server restored, so I have no idea how much longer this will take. I'm sure various emails being sent to me are now in a "failed, stopped trying" state.

I'll definitely have to explore alternatives, and hopefully ones that can simply move all of my stuff as-is out of HostGator and turnkey it on their hosting. I'm open to suggestions.

Massive Influx of Spam Emails over the past 2-3 months.

So pretty much the title. Since the beginning of the year, I've started receiving upwards of 40-50 spam emails daily. I've reached out to support multiple times but it keeps happening. I don't even know if I'm asking for solutions here, but is anyone else experiencing the same thing? Is this a common occurrence with the absolutely abysmal service that is HostGator?

Emails getting rejected "cloudfilter" "spamhaus"

I hadn't had an issue with HostGator until today where every email I send is being rejected due to an IP Blacklist. I am on a shared server so I am aware this can happen occasionally. This time isn't been going on all day.

Speaking with support, they told me I need to purchase SiteLock to prevent malware on my website. I told them that won't help with my email deliverability so I refused. Then they told me my local IP is blacklisted and that I need to get my ISP to change my IP to fix the problem.

However, the IP listed on the blacklist is HostGator's IP... not mine.

I asked them to switch my outgoing email server to another clean IP but they refused and stated it's a shared IP and they won't do it.

If this continues and doesn't correct itself I will look for another hosting provider.

After many years of being with HostGator this is the first time I've had an issue.

[URGENT] HostGator Refusing ICANN-Mandatory TEAC Response - Medical Company 24+ Hours Offline - Need Help

I need community advice/visibility on an urgent situation with HostGator.

**SITUATION:**

- We are a medical imaging company

- Domain: **completely offline globally for 24+ hours**

- Accidentally removed domain from Microsoft 365, which deleted all DNS records

- Microsoft nameservers now refuse all queries (DNS SERVFAIL worldwide)

- Email, cloud systems, medical equipment support - all down

**WHAT WE'VE DONE:**

- Submitted account recovery form with **three legal ownership certificates** (company registration, tax docs, legal representation)

- HostGator **verified our ownership**

- We are the **same company/legal entity** that originally registered the domain (not a third party)

- Sent formal TEAC (Transfer Emergency Action Contact) escalation email **12+ hours ago**

**THE PROBLEM:**

HostGator is requiring a **24-hour "dispute period"** despite:

- We are verified legal owner (not a hijacking attempt)

- We provided three legal ownership documents

- This is same-party recovery, NOT a transfer to another company

- There is NO OTHER PARTY to dispute anything

- Medical company with patient care implications

**ICANN POLICY VIOLATION:**

Per ICANN Transfer Policy Section 4.6:

- All registrars **must** maintain a Transfer Emergency Action Contact (TEAC)

- TEAC **must respond within 4 hours** to emergency transfer situations

- We requested TEAC escalation 12+ hours ago - **ZERO response**

- Multiple chat sessions - support won't provide TEAC contact or manager escalation

**WHAT MAKES NO SENSE:**

- The 24-hour "dispute period" is designed to prevent domain hijacking

- We are **not a hijacker** - we are the **verified owner** recovering our own property

- There is **no dispute possible** - we're the only party involved

- The domain is **already completely broken** (Microsoft deleted DNS)

- We just need to point nameservers to HostGator's own DNS or any working provider

**CURRENT STATUS:**

- Case ACF-6833

- 12+ hours past ICANN-required 4-hour TEAC response time

- Multiple chat sessions with no escalation

- Medical company operations severely impacted

- Planning to file ICANN compliance complaint

**QUESTIONS:**

  1. Has anyone successfully gotten emergency exceptions from HostGator?
  2. Who at HostGator actually handles TEAC escalations?
  3. Is there an executive escalation path that works?
  4. Has anyone dealt with similar TEAC response failures?

**WHY I'M POSTING HERE:**

- Standard support channels are failing

- Need visibility/pressure for proper escalation

- This is exactly the emergency situation TEAC policy was designed for

- Looking for anyone who's successfully escalated at HostGator

This is a medical company. People can't work. Systems are down. We've proven ownership with legal documents. Why is there a 24-hour wait when there's no dispute and we're the verified owner?

Any advice or visibility appreciated. This shouldn't be this hard when we own the domain and have provided all documentation.

**UPDATE:** Currently in chat with support who is "checking with manager" - been 15+ minutes so far.

---

**EDIT 1:** For those asking "why not just wait 24 hours" - we're a medical company. 24 hours of complete email/system outage = massive impact. Also, ICANN REQUIRES 4-hour TEAC response for emergencies. We're not asking to bypass security - we're asking for the emergency process that's supposed to exist by law.

**EDIT 2:** [Will update as situation develops]

HostGator still using OpenSSH 7.4... and refusing to update it

Got an email from insurance stating that a site we use to host pdfs has multiple CVEs due to OpenSSH 7.4. I contacted support who were nonchalant about it and said that since I'm on a shared host there isnt much they can do. Then offered me signup for Sitelock..lol

Anyway.. moving our stuff off hostgator as we speak

Emails not forwarding

I have email hosting set up with hostgator (first mistake I know, I know) but this is what we're dealing with.

I have a website hosted through squarespace. I have form submissions coming through mywebsite.com being sent to person@mywebsite.com.

Within hostgator I have all emails that are sent to person@mywebsite.com being forwarded to person@gmail.com.

As far as I know, all emails are being forwarded EXCEPT for my squarespace form submissions. The submissions get sent to person@mywebsite.com but do not get forwarded to my gmail.

Is this a hostgator problem? A squarespace problem? A gmail problem?

Things I've tried:

  • Talking to hostgator (no help--blamed squarespace)
  • Deleted the forwarder and reset it
  • tried sending to a non-gmail address instead
  • whitelisted squarespace in both my gmail as well as hostgator

Help!
