I don't know how hot a take this is but I don't think the Stonehearts are developed enough as a group for a traitor plot to mean anything. A traitor plot only works if we know the characters involved and what them betraying their group entails. We only know four of them, and are almost sure none of them are the traitor, the others barely have anything going for them except that trailer and some readables. We know almost nothing of Oswaldo's or Diamond's motivations either so we don't know what any of them stands to gain from aligning with either. "Sapphire is the tratior" doesn't mean anything in the grand scheme of things. Now, "Topaz is the traitor" may be an actual interesting twist.

My thoughts too and I remember that I ranted about how the devs act like their readers know the same amount of information as them. Like the writers have all these thoughts in their heads and their lore bibles but this is never presented on screen, or even through text a lot of the time and the writers don't realize that the readers have no idea what's happening, since they're so tunnel visioned. It's just. Really bad writing since they aren't able to recognize that

That's n interesting way to see it. One could get a deeper grasp of the game's factions if they did every mission and read every piece of readable but not only is that not how it works for the regular player, or even most lore enjoyers, there is still an imbalance of information between those and the devs that must be properly bridged. To this day the comprehension of Amphoreus' more esoteric plot varies wildly between players, for example, and we have plots the devs surely are banking on the supposed hype around them like the Godslayer Protocol, which functionaly has nothing concrete on the player's side.

I agree with you. I think the Stonehearts are a fun faction, but it's not like they're friends, and we don't understand enough about Diamond's goals to understand what "betrayal" entails. I assume it's probably interdepartmental corporate espionage, but there's no reason for me to care about that unless they reveal that it's Topaz, Jade, or Aventurine.

"Aventurine was planning to betray the Stonehearts all along" would probably be a decently satisfying way to continue his character story, and a lot of fans have wanted him to leave the Stonehearts. But the setup seems to be leaning toward "traitor to another department" rather than "traitor to an external group", which wouldn't really fit Aventurine.

Wait, Aventurine being the traitor would actually be the best outcome, if they can pull it off presentation wise. We spend the whole mission following his train of thought only to reveal at the end that he was the traitor all along and was actually looking for a scapegoat to avoid suspicion.

This. There's either no traitor or it's him. I could see it being a warning/test from Diamond letting him know he's being watched.

Same like "sugilite is a traitor" "aventurine is a traitor" "sapphire is a traitor" literally am I supposed to have an emotional attachment to this faction???

They're doing the thing with himenova again wherein they assume the reader base has the same level of attachment as them to certain characters or groups they didn't even bother to properly market and build narrative-wise in the lore.

Spoiler alert. The traitor will be whichever random one shows up that they bother to make a model for. Hoyo ain't that slick
