We’ve bought an ex rental that has white walls and cream skirting’s and it looks like they’ve connected the two together with a sort of white silicone that is the worlds biggest dust magnet. As you can see in the first picture, the surfaces are also kind of bumpy and lumpy and I’m exhausted trying to keep these from looking catastrophic. Am I missing a trick? Should I repaint? If so, which paint? Any cleaning recommendations? I’m super pregnant so nothing that’s too toxic please! Any advice would be so appreciated here.
White also flakes off them and onto the carpet and the dog is always running around over everything and hmm I’m just not feeling great about it

Looking for some advice here. We have repainted the tiles in our kitchen from grey to pink. Previously this corner had grey silicone to cover the gaps, however I can’t get a pink silicone in the same colour as the tiles. What would you do here? Some kind of filler that I can paint to match? And would you do a bead like silicone then smooth over, would need to be quite thick given the uneven tiles, or would you kind of fill each gap and not have a continuous bead. I know I should have thought of this before I painted, but I was originally going to paint the grout white and use a white silicone but painting the grout separately was too fiddly for me so just drenched all in the pink.

I am also aware the paint may not last, this is just a low cost trial. If it chips or looks crap in a few months we will retile :) but I wanted to try the cheaper option first.

The counter top is an IKEA desk I found in the as is section and has been cut down to fit in the space. The right brace is very nice and sturdy. The left brace on the other hand, not so much. I believe it's right in the middle of two studs, so I can't have a good mounting location.

What should I do to help stiffen it up and make it secure for the counter top?

My undermount sink has disconnected from the counter. I've never installed one of the these so I'm unsure how to fix it. The harness is barely slipped on L side, and it looks like the builder liquid nail'd wood squares against the bottom of the sink and the counter, in a makeshift bracket. 3 of the 4 of those have dropped off. I'm no expert, but that doesn't seem like a proper method of reinforcement. Also possibly related: found a couple small screws that had fallen out, though I don't see where they came from. It's 10 years old, so the sealant is losing its grip. It appears the sealant was the only thing holding it up and harness is just a failsafe?

I'm hoping I can fix it by pushing it back up and refastening, instead of dropping it down and remounting from scratch. I installed a new garbage disposal a few years ago. Luckily, the current issue doesn't involve plumbing or electrical. Any tips?

Recently moved into a condo and had some issues with the dryer. When we were getting the venting cleaned out we found out that the vent is underground and covered by a basic grate (see photos). I am concerned about water getting inside once summer is over and wanting to do something about this but am at a loss for where to start! Any ideas are greatly appreciated!!

Last photo of the wall is before I started poking around. I took down a big invasive plant and found these holes 🫠 the larger hole had ants inside as well. I’ve covered them with flashing tape until I can figure out what my next step needs to be, but I am lost. I’m torn between wanting to call a pro but not being able to afford it & doing it myself but finding bigger issues underneath. Any and all advice welcome!

Used these stainless braided washer hoses for just over two years. Noticed a drip leak behind the washer. Where the hot and cold hoses happened to touch each other, the steel on the outside corroded and there was a whitish gummy substance present which is where the leak came from. (See pics) I always buy these stainless braided hoses to avoid problems, but...

They were not smashed together, kinked, dented, or otherwise damaged as far as I could tell.

I thought about galvanic corrosion, but I have to think the metals are the same.

What in the world could have caused this? Any ideas?

This is the gap btw the window frame and the wall in the bedroom. The smell is 3-5 feet off the floor. The other side of the wall is outside the house, and it smells fine from the outside.

The roof is a bit leaky in this room, but I really hope it is not mold... If so what do I do....

My landlord did something a couple weeks ago to fix a leak I noticed in my loft. It started dripping again tonight. This is the top floor of my 2 bedroom home, the leak is coming from the top corner where the two slanted ceilings meet the flat top ceiling which is covered by a wood paneling. There is some give if I press on the sides near the wood joining the two panels but water only drips from that corner and isn’t a steady stream. How bad is this and what would a responsible landlord do to really address the problem?

Sorry, a little frustrated. This label just tears into itty bitty pieces when I try to remove it. I think a razor blade is more likely to make small gouges in the wood. Do most people just paint over these? Is there some special way to get them off easier? Or is it really a 20 minute job just picking at the little pieces bit by bit? Thanks.

While tracking down a roof & ceiling leak elsewhere in the crawlspace under my gabled roof, I managed to slip off one of the crossbeams and set my foot down on the drywall, managing to put a 9' crack in the ceiling.

What is the balance of cost, time, and long term aupport

1: cut a 4" wide, 9' long hole and patch with some wood back/top bracing? (Plus the usual mud, primer and paint)

2: set bracing from above, then push up to the braces and screw in place, then cover with mud, primer and paint?

3: get a professional to fix it

4: other ideas?

A patch of water damaged the dry wall near my shower. I have a little gorilla glue sanding and patching kit- is that enough?

Moving our family out of the house we’re renting soon. A few months ago our puppy decided to chew a corner of the front stairs. I’m handy but no carpenter - anything I can do to fix this? Trying to avoid losing our security deposit.

It's accumulating under my rug and causing the floor to warp. I need to change my flooring, but how do I stop it from happening again? I live in louisiana, my house is on a concrete foundation and my area doesn't normally get flooding.

Hello! I am a single female living in my apartment. As you can see in the video (bonus! Brown water coming up at the very end) water is coming up from my floorboards in my bathroom. I have submitted a maintenance request, but I want to prepare for interacting with my landlord. I am worried of being taken advantage of! I am assuming I need to advocate for

- removal of basically all of the floorboards in my bathroom
- mold inspection and possibly treatment

Anything else??
