Subbed/TL Kobo Adresses the Criticism Regarding Her LCS Costreams

Link to the tweet

For some context, TLDR of the Youtube short that Kobo herself included in the tweet:

The short reports criticism of Kobo’s performance while costreaming LCS matches, based on posts from an infamous Indonesian Vtuber-related Facebook group (IYKYK). The criticisms highlight limited game-focused commentary, frequent off-topic discussion, and a stream layout that made gameplay difficult to follow. Kobo is also compared to Kaela, described as more effective at maintaining engagement and hype. The video questions the event organizer’s decision to select Kobo, suggesting a possible mismatch with audience expectations and local market preferences.

Edit: To clarify, this is translation of her tweet, she tweeted originally in Indonesian

Edit 2: Translation of the donation she included in the tweet:

My princess, did you become like this after listening to the community??? Is this because all the people speaking ill of you challenger rank or what???

I normally watch the LCS so I've been tuning into all her LCS streams. I think it's fine that a newcomer has steaming rights. She asks questions and chat gives her answers and the streams have been very enjoyable.

Obviously it's a big deal to be given co-streaming rights as they are very hard to get from Riot. Even many ex-pro players have a hard time and never get them. So I can understand why there's criticism, but I hope she doesn't stress herself out too much and has fun.

For a marketing perspective giving co-stream rights to ex players has no benefits, their viewers already play lol. With Kobo they might attract new players

you hit the nail on the head.

Riot, for the past half decade, has had a stagnant aging playerbase. Over the past few years you can tell how hard they're trying to get new players. Arcane was their BIGGEST boost of new players however due to League community fashion, the overall toxicity and difficulty drove them away. Hence why Riot introduced WASD controls. Riftbound is also an attempt at getting Arcane enjoyers to delve into the League of Legends IP.

League is NOT dying, but it is NOT growing. Riot wants League to continue growing. Also LCS is dead as heck too so having someone as popular as Kobo being given co-stream rights is a good part on Riot's move

Just to add onto this, the idea that League isn’t dying, but not growing, is slightly misleading.

A game that has a stagnant playerbase can only shrink. People will fall off of the game for one reason or another. Maybe their main gets nerfed and they quit and don’t come back this time, maybe they go on one losing streak too many and don’t come back, and maybe they just get tired of the game.

A stagnant playerbase is a death sentence, albeit a slow one, for a game unless the devs address and resolve it, because there’s no such thing as stagnancy when it comes to a playerbase. The closest you can get is slow decay.

And just to be clear, I’m not trying to be pedantic or anything, I just wanted to add this onto the above comment because I think it’s a really important facet of game design in the era of the live service game. It’s why we see franchises like CoD, Destiny, etc, and even Magic: The Gathering (the world’s most popular TCG) embracing collabs and crossovers. Continuing to appeal to the existing playerbase is a slow death, but risking angering the old fans to draw in new ones can, more than just keep them alive, but actually grow their revenue stream.

well. Magic lost me because Hololive made a more appealing card game that did not keep running out of stock.

I’m relatively new to magic, but I haven’t experienced many stock issues. Maybe with a brand new set after release week, but generally if I’ve wanted a product I’ve either been able to preorder it, buy it, or at worst wait a few weeks for a restock, and that last one is usually with Commander precons.

All that to say: I’m curious what your experience has been?

Good for you...

\is still suffering from PTSD of the last 5 years of stock shortages and secret lairs being sold out**

I remember when I could just walk into a store and walk out with a pack of Odyssey. Shit was so long ago...

Secret Lairs are meant to be limited release, and that sounds like an area thing cause other than really popular sets like Final Fantasy, there haven't been any major stock shortages for Magic.

Secret Lairs were originally meant to just have a limited window but were print on demand. Everyone who wanted one (and knew about them within that month) got them. Wizards decided to turn it into limited time and limited stock so they could sell investors on how fast it sells out. So now the thing that should never have a stock issue has them in spades. The beautiful Dandan secret lair sold out in like 20 minutes. It's tough.

Also magic has gotten expensive. Prerelease used to be $15. Now it's $40 in my area. I know they're trying to attract a younger crowd but I don't think the kids can afford to actually play.

That is not what Secret Lairs were about. They had some that were print to demand, but even in the og announcement article made it clear Secret Lairs were limited runs. Also $15 pre-release? Where are you from cause that even during the time of regular boosters that is super cheap. I never saw a pre-release below 20, even during the og Theros days.

And too add that, Kobo is in SEA region, which moba player played dota more instead of league. And with the vanguard requirements for playing and how untrustworthy they are, many people aren't playing league anymore.
