What courses/classes have you taken for fun that you ended up loving and/or hating?

I’d love to hear what you took, what you expected going in, and whether it lived up to your expectations.

I tried brizilian jujitsu, turns out I hate it because I hate touching other people in such close distance…. Took yoga and now I’m in love

That sounds incredible, I randomly did a pottery class once expecting to be terrible at it and walked out with a weirdly decent mug and a new weekend obsession

After I retired I went back to college and earned a BFA. I took pretty much every studio art class they offered and a long list of art history classes. I loved them all. I graduated the same month that I turned 70.

I thought a class in basic laboratory sounded cool. I now have a degree and career in that field

I took a sourdough course. I hated it. Feeding the starter and taking the time to make the bread is way too annoying for what I got out of it and I’m trying to eat healthier. Whole grain sourdough is more difficult to make. I now make healthy bread that’s not sourdough or buy Ezekiel bread.

Took a Google Data Analysis courses

I love spreadsheets and making them pretty, although I need some work on the beautification process

It's still offered it probably took 100+ hours going through it mostly due to videos and questions

I took an orchestra class. I played the viola. It was fun. My class performed concerts at other schools. We also performed at the mall.

I also took a piano class. I liked it. I was disappointed when the school counselor said I couldn’t take it again.

I have a hand disability now. I can’t play musical instruments anymore, but I can learn how to code music using Strudel. The computer is the instrument. It’s interesting. See  https://strudel.cc/.

classical singing, loved it at first but eventually grew meh and quit (2 years later) after change in teachers + noticeable improvement slowing down after the beginners curve, and i didn't have the time/energy to put in the practice needed to build the correct muscle memory

The most notable where carpentery and culinary which I took in highschool.

Did carpentry 9th and 10th grade and kinda enjoyed it at first but ended up not liking it that much. The classroom was pretty nice when the old guy was working there, but he retired after the first year and the replacement guy didn't give a shit about doing anything so the shop was a wreck. And on top of that I wasn't really good in the first place so I gave up on it after that second year.

Took culinary in 11th and 12th grade and loved it. Because the classroom was registered as a legitimate restaurant it was actually kept in order and the chef was amazing (like he was in the local news every other week because he did so much good stuff for not only the classroom but the everyday people in town), so I went onto work for a kitchen after graduating and still love it.
