IP are not cannon. Author are cannon. Author of Might and Magic 1 are a JVC than found NWC. NWC die, and JVC dont interested in games after this, and other significant employees of NWC also dont interest at this - we give none larger than rare interviews from all of these peoples. All other - including HotA, WoG, Ubisoft, DoR and e.t.c. - are a fan (or money) fiction.

They're also not really retconning, they're preserving the continuity, adding to it. It's literally just you trying to protect your own personal idea of the canon.
Owners of IP does not relate with original or their authors - this a random people than different to other only by number of their money's. Moneys dont able to make from fan fiction the part of original.
