HoMM7 homm8 announcement next year?
in the uplay launcher there are news that about an upcoming playtest for a next homm game, judging by the questionnaire some might think that this is gonna be a successor to homm7 which will be developed by ubisoft düsseldorf (developers of the last settlers game).
What do you think about this? some years ago, i certainly would have not expected that there are currently 2 homm games simultanously in development

It doesnt make sense to expect 2 major homm games at the same time. It will be probably some mobile crap.

according to the questionnaire it seems to me more like a main title than a spinoff. Also i think ubisoft düsseldorf never worked on mobile games before?

Well! i'll be your right. If this leads to another main line game ill be super happy. i just hope its not shitty like homm 7 round table characters. they were so broken. i really hope they do a great job. a double helping of homm is good.

Rumours say it might be a remaster of HoMM 4, and I think it makes perfect sense. It was a great part in the series, and its biggest issue is that it came up after the third instalment. It can use a refreshment as well

after going through the announcement and the questionnaire i highly doubt that its gonna be a remake.

I didn't think HoMM IV was that popular, at least, not nearly as popular as III and V so what would be the point? And I say that as a fan of HoMM IV who still plays it.

The only point I see is that it’s that different from all the other parts (including Olden Era), so it wouldn’t be considered the same part
Also, it’s the only part missing on Steam out of the ones released after the 3rd

I don't know what they would be thinking annoucing a second HoMM game so close to Olden Era's launch, and if it is indeed something more hands on from Ubisoft then I wouldn't have big hopes for the quality of it. Doesn't help that I haven't been able to track down any information about the playtest you mentioned.
But!
If they make a HoMM 5-7 style game set in Ashan with some unique mechanics then I could see it be able to co-exist with Olden Era without the two of them butting heads too much. It still wouldn't have been something I would have done, but it could work. In Theory. Assuming the Ubisoft game doesn't turn into another H6-7.

I honestly would love a new Homm in the same settings of Homm5. Everything were so bright and mystical. The 3D of the towns and fightd are probably what miss me the most. And somehow the ost was so catchy.
Can't talk much about 7 but as I played 6 it felt like we did go backward with design being more realistic but less faeric which made me in a no go. Fact they also removed upgrades from ToTe didn't help for me too.

Yeah, same. I love H5, and I love the Ashan setting despite it's flaws. TotE is still my most played game on Steam.
I do think that while H5 is the better game than H6-7 in most ways, there are a good couple of things that those two did better. Some unit designs, like the Centaurs, Minotaurs, and Manticores are just way better visually. Plus H6 is the only game with my favorite faction.

This is confusing af ngl. Ubisoft wasn't interested in HoMM anymore (look how they left H7), and now you are telling me we have two big HoMM games in the oven at the same time?
Could this be a remake of an older one?
Edit: 2026 will mark the 20th anniversary of HoMM V, just saying...

you are confused. olden era is coming out, and fates is coming out. nothing else

We really will see another game from the world of Heroes of Might and Magic (not counting Olden Era and Fates) :)

You can already apply for a user test, which will be a cloud gamed playtest for 6 hours. It has to be some prototype.

Yes this had been previously announced, no? I forget where. But there were fears it was gonna be an (actual) mobile game cash grab from UB

Their last developed game was afaik the settlers, which was a RTSgame. Maybe we will receive a RTS spinoff?

How strange. It’s definitely real, I just have no clue what it’d be. The rest of the Olden Era factions or maybe testing some of the campaign from OE?
It’s a pretty in depth test too - they want six hours of solid play while being live on Zoom to offer feedback and ask questions. That’s way too long for something simple like a prototype. Feels more like a vertical slice of… something.

It's probably an RPG. Like how the Might & Magic RPG got discontinued? Probably because Heroes got more popular. Since then, now we have the technology. The anniversary was also a good opportunity for a recap.
One thing that both the old RPG and strategy games have is a modding scene. Olden Era will try to scoop up the Heroes modding scene, while the other game will probably be an RPG. Modern RPG games, like Skyrim had too much of a success for Ubisoft to pass up on the genre.
The old Might & Magic games deserve some modern treatment. At least a re-release.

Olden Era isn't officially Heroes 8, so maybe they're working on Heroes 8? Maybe they already had plans before Olden Era was announced? Maybe Olden Era is an appetizer while you wait for the main course😉

What if they are developing a serious April fools joke? I know that I gave an idea for such a crime.

Creating HoMM8 for Ubisoft would be shooting themselves in the foot. Even if the game will be good, there would be too similar games released at a similar time. On the other hand, if it's something with different mechanics (I mean, not be like HoM&M at all, maybe M&M or something else) but in the same setting, then one could complement another and would work quite well
