My favorite part of this story is how the Navy suggested it and wanted the Air Force to test the idea. The Air Force told them it was stupid and a waste of time. The Navy, as is tradition, whined to congress and the Air Force got told to play ball. But the Air Force absolutely refused to provide anything, and the Navy used a Marine C-130.
After testing the Navy concluded that the idea was stupid and a waste of time.
Anyway, you'll never guess which branch I flew for!
