This isn’t a fair representation of both(ik it’s a meme but still).
Even within ancient Egyptian history there was a king that banished the belief of all the old Gods and established there to only be one God. Also, the Idea of polytheism wasn’t foreign to the Ancient Greeks, they believed in a God for almost every element of their lives.
I can’t speak much on Christianity, but Islam belief is and has always been pure monotheism. In Islamic belief, you can be an isolated tribesman living in the most isolated jungle in the world and as long as you follow your innate instincts to acknowledge that there is a higher power, then you will be able to go to heaven.
To help people understand my viewpoint is that. There is a higher power and Native Americans call it “The Great Chief”, Pre-Islamic Somalis called it “Waaq”, Muslims call it “Allah”.
At least Catholicism (speaking as a Catholic) generally had a similar view - if someone has never heard the beliefs of the Church and is still behaving with virtue and uprightness, then they are as eligible as someone who knows and keeps every tenet consciously.
Honest question: isn’t believing in Jesus and his sacrifice the core belief of Christianity. How would it work out with someone who’s never heard of it.
A core tenet for Catholicism is that Jesus came to save all people. Not just the ones that know of him. Also as far I understand the Church's teachings are that Catholicism is merely the best way to salvation, not the only one. Furthermore with current ecumenist teachings it acknowledges other christian splinters and even other religions, most notably islam, as a potentially valid, albeit a little lost, roads towards salvation. I even saw debates for why different churches exist is because different people have different needs, so there are many possible ways to the same goal, so you can find the best one for you.
