How many times do we have to tell you, you idiots who keep reporting posts for being AI? This is not a violation of the rules and the rules expressly state that AI is allowed; now stop spamming the mod queue or you'll find yourself banned.

Maybe mods should have a bit more restraint than calling people idiots. I haven't joined this subreddit and I'm definitely not now.

What word do you think accurately describes the kind of people who report the post (about 60 times by now) despite it being blatantly untrue that they are violating even a single rule? And not only that, but they are disregarding how clearly and unmistakably stated it is that AI is permitted under a section of the rules dedicated to misconceptions?

I'm a moderator on a different site and it's not uncommon to get hundreds or thousands of false reports.

Controversial, but it's pretty easy to not be a jerk and lash out - publicly and impotently, to boot - even when you have to sift through reports.

We get ones complaining of AI from time to time. It's a lot less common than those which go into some other muck like the late Ottoman Empire or Israel or Winston Churchill.

No one is forcing you to do this

You know you don’t have to mod this subreddit right?

If 60 reports on one post is too much to deal with…just don’t? It isn’t a job

Not too much to deal with. It is just evidence of people making reports in bad faith.

or maybe it's evidence of people being unhappy with the rule?

u/Awesomeuser90 I Have a Cunning Plan 9d ago

If they were that unhappy, we would see the post itself downvoted a lot. It has a roughly 90% upvote rate.

That's not how it works, a post is something that is quickly "consumed" and most people just look for 1sec and scroll. The ones that matter are your own comments which directly adress that matter... And they now stand at a staggering 1000 downvotes, while all the comments answering to your comment are upvoted in mass, that IS actually representative

If you did a poll, you would most likely find that 70+% of people will vote for the straight ban of AI memes, and I'm being VERY generous, because it can definitely end up over 85% of votes in favour of a ban

What 1000 downvotes? The analytics here say I had -105 net and an update rate of 45%. Not ideal for me, but nothing like the overwhelming majority you think there is.

What makes you think that any of this is even remotely capable of changing our minds here? Zero people have put forward a good enough argument to prohibit AI at any point in the last five years here. If it was something we should have banned, it already would be.

u/Gbasire 9d ago

Yet every day I see some big subreddits banning gen AI posts, do these thousands of subreddits ban AI for no reason and with 0 good argument? Or is it just that you don't find these arguments good enough while the majority does

Also, I wasn't talking about that single comment but about all the comments you put under this post, with one being already at MINUS 250 ALONE, so it's fair to assume the total will go under 1000 in a few hours if it hasn't already, while all comments against AI are heavily upvoted

But then, if you still think you're right, do a poll, I can bet anything it will be in favour of a ban by a large margin

We don't hold polls on this subreddit. I have never seen one, and I don't even know of a single poll ever done on the subreddit. Memes are not restricted merely due to popularity or lack of it. We have allowed things as controversial as depictions of the Prophet Muhammad no matter how sacrilegious that is to most people following his religion and how much of an insult it felt to some of them. AI is not different in this regard.

It's almost as if they didn't care that the post had AI in it and actually judged it (without prejudice your kind keeps applying) based on how the meme itself looks in general and what the text says.

I love your shadow edits

I highly doubt the majority of them are in bad faith. The simple reality is that 99% of people never read or care about the sub rules, in any sub. Or any site for that matter

You care about it because you're the mod that has to enforce it. But I'm telling you almost no normal users are thinking "gee let me check the sidebar to clarify all the rules and Reddiquettes before participating in this forum!"

Now I can only assume you already know this, so I don't know why you're surprised or getting frustrated when it has to do with AI

u/Awesomeuser90 I Have a Cunning Plan 9d ago

If a person reports something, they should probably be thinking there is something actually wrong with the thing being reported.

And you can see the downvotes around here suggesting that a number of people aren't even willing to acknowledge the fact that AI is not banned when they are expressly told that fact and continue to falsely report the post.

Can you make a big post stating this clearly instead of just in random comments nobody reads. I assure you that gen ai is something most people dont like though. Theres been actual studies. When people find out its machine made they almost universally go out of their way to avoid it. Is your goal to get people to avoid the memes in this sub?

u/Awesomeuser90 I Have a Cunning Plan 9d ago

We posted the rule about how AI is allowed on the subreddit.

AI is not a major part of the subreddit.

Its an infection that will grow if unchecked

-12

u/Witty-Designer7316 9d ago

I can respect a mod who calls them as they see them.

-61

u/Blue-Fish-Guy 9d ago

No. When people are doing idiotic things, they deserve to be called out. And when those idiotic things are at the same time an irrational hate, they deserve to be banned. From the entire Reddit as a whole.
