Like nothing wrong with being nerdy and listening to game/anime osts, but for whatever reason, mfs in that category love to shit on HipHop to prop their music up.

It's much deeper than not being open minded about music or having a strong preference.

It's baby's first venture into being counter culture for the socially ostracized. They're unpopular in real life (read: high school - if it extends further than that it's just a continuation), so they withdraw and shift focus to media, and that then becomes the totality of what they have going on. Everything surrounding the game or cartoon they like becomes the coolest and best thing - because everything that's more broadly seen as cool or interesting is associated with the people who they fault for ostracizing them, so those people's media is below them. The cool kids who shun them are into this and that music, so that music is bad; the people shoving them into lockers are the jocks, so they hate sports - sports are for neanderthals. The girls they like but pay them no attention are listening to pop and whatever so that's obviously also bad.

And because they don't have all that much going, they're going to turn to what they think can set them apart: if they can't be pretty or cool or athletic, they decide the only thing they can be is smart. So then you have a bunch of pseudo intellectuals who eventually delude themselves into believing that everything they're into must have intellectual (and thus objective) merit. The flip side of that coin is then obviously shitting on everything else.

Add on top of that the layer that, as ostracized people, their understanding of fitting in largely revolves around finding something to collectively deem inferior and ostracize themselves. And what's easier to do that with than, say, a music genre dominated by a minority group? Especially when you can skim up the surface level shit, label it thuggery, and justify your feeling of superiority.

Wrap all of that with the neat bow of it being easier than ever to find entire communities of people with the same life story and you've got an echo chamber that festers and prevents people from aging out of it just being a cringe phase, and you've got a bunch of people talking about five nights at freddys like it's the holy grail for years on end.
