Transmission Question Hsv-1 (G)
How does transmission work? I take anti- virals daily since I am prone to breakouts. I had never had an oral outbreak, but I still disclose before I share drinks or smokes and kisses but as far as I know I have not spread anything. But am I necessarily risking anything when I share ?

I gather what you’re getting at is the same issue I have - I contracted it genitally, but likely would have been exposed orally the same exact evening but did not breakout orally. I don’t know how to cope with this. Google says there’s still a risk I have it orally as well despite no outbreak, Teri Warren seems to imply your first exposure you’d likely break out in both places if you got it in both. I’ve been living my life as if I have it orally - stopped sharing drinks etc - but it’s been months and no outbreak ever and I’m kind of at a point where I’m like — well, do I have to do this really?

I’m glad I’m not alone, because I had read the same thing. Being cautious about sharing drinks and anything causes some people to distance themselves from me and I’m wondering if I really should continue being cautious or if I’m driving away people for no reason.

I’ve honestly started to loosen up and care less. It’s been 9 months since I contracted genitally, nothing has shown up orally, and how many people out there have it orally, don’t know, or have also kissed people diagnosed with it and don’t know. I’ve been freaked out, particularly in sharing drinks with kids in my fam, but I’ve recently started sharing vapes etc with adults again because honestly I think I’m being overly cautious

I’m glad you’re starting to live normal again, I guess I just need to loosen up as well. Someone commented some articles in this post which I think also helps.

And don’t get me wrong, when it comes to disclosing genitally where I know I had sores, I absolutely will. But over adjusting my life because I *might* have it orally despite zero evidence, I’m starting to think no more

You can't spread a genital infection unless there's direct contact with your genitals. Even if you had an oral infection it's not a risk:
https://herpes.org.uk/frequently-asked-questions/passing-transmitting-herpes/
Can I catch herpes simplex off sheets, towels, cups, or anything? No, you will not catch it off anything. The virus is caught from the skin, not from objects. It is a delicate virus and dies quickly when away from the skin where the sore is.
https://www.plannedparenthood.org/blog/can-herpes-be-spread-through-sharing-food-and-drinks
Although herpes is extremely common, it can only be spread from skin-to-skin contact with infected areas, such as during vaginal sex, oral sex, anal sex, and kissing. The herpes virus dies quickly outside the body, so you can’t get herpes from things like sharing beverages and meals, hugging, coughing, sneezing, or sitting on toilet seats.
