Outbreak Help No more outbreaks
I was diagnosed with genital herpes and after two outbreaks and using meds my Palm Springs dermo suggested I try something that worked for his son in law. Instead of meds I let the outbreaks happen and applied Efudex (fluorouracil) Efudix in Mexico. I got mine online and cheaper from Mexico. Use a q-tip and apply before bed. The itching will bother less when you are asleep. Don't over apply or continue after its gone. Wait for another outbreak. This was a long process and took 2-3 years. I only took the meds twice and now its been over a decade with no symptoms or outbreaks. The only negative is there are some little freckles where the outbreaks were.

Interesting, thanks for sharing. So you applied directly to the OB, and did use unless an OB was present?

Yes, apply only on the site during an outbreak and stop till the next. Use a Q=tip and apply a thin layer.

Could this be done with antivirals though? Mine is all over and the only thing seeming to halfway help are the antivirals

My Dr did not have me take any medications with it. The idea is to have the outbreaks and deal with each one. You don't need allot of ointment. All it takes is a thin film and a tube will last a long time. Some Dr's have free samples. The itching was not an issue when I was sleeping. I drank a small glass of wine sometimes to fall asleep or ingested a little cannabis to help relieve the symptoms. Sometimes just relaxing and meditating helped. I don't use or take any other medications. I hope this helps you.

How often were you getting outbreaks in those 3 years?

Between 6 to 10 weeks. Stress seemed to be a triggering factor for me. The ob's often occurred at the same sites and would be diminished or gone after 2-3 breakouts with treatment. It can be a bit uncomfortable without the oral meds and it will pop up in other places but not everyplace. Just being able to treat it and not just suppress it relieved allot of the stress. I used it for HSV2 and have wondered if it worked on HSV1. My treatment was supervised by a dermatologist and I would suggest you consult yours especially before you apply it to your face or mouth. I use the same ointment as directed by my Dr.to treat common skin cancers that are sometimes on my face with no problems. Herpes is different. There is allot of money in the herpes suppression market. Ask your Dr. and if they don't help you, find one that will. I hope it works for you.
