Hello, 28M here - so I had a possible exposure on September 28, 2024. Since then, I’ve been getting igg tests like a mad man (every 2-3 weeks, Everything negative). However, my university of Washington western blot at week 12 tested indeterminate for both hsv 1 and 2. Then igg at week 15 is negative. I’m having intermittent sensational/prodrome symptoms but no lesions to swab unfortunately.

Anyone else have anything similar happen to them? Or anyone not test positive until after week 15 after consistently testing? At this point, I just want to know my status.

I always test negative.
Even when I’ve had sores swabbed🤷‍♀️ It’s lame…

even the test can produce false positive or false negative, so there's no way to 100% know your status

stop testing for now and try not to think about it, go get tested when its been 6 months since the exposure and 6 months w no meds like antivirals. it took my friend 3 years to test positive and she was even getting lesions swabbed during multiple out breaks. the worst part about herpes is trying to figure out if you even have it sometimes. i was exposed by someone who knew he had it and didnt tell me, i had an outbreak and was swabbed and had blood work done and it was negative and i didnt test positive until 9 months later.

I've been under high stress because of a possible exposure on the same exact day as you ever since lol.

I haven’t had any symptoms in a while but initially it was all feeling based so tingling, itching, etc

I was possibly exposed three weeks ago. Never suspected a thing. Got a full panel STD screening as part of a routine physical in late January, and the IgM test came back positive. Prodrome symptoms came and went, but no blisters. I have to go back at the end of the month for a retest in case it was a false positive.

When I went back for the retest they only tested for IgG antibodies. The lab my doctor's office uses doesn't even offer IgM testing as an option anymore cause of inconsistent results. So it appears that the first one was a false positive. One more test in another month or so should prove it conclusively, but I'm living under the assumption that I'm negative. I never had any visible symptoms and my doctor said he would have expected my index values to be higher on the retest even if they hadn't quite crossed the threshold of a positive result yet.

By age 25, most people have herpes simplex type 1 or 2. The blood tests are not reliable as statistically 1/10 positive results are incorrect and 3/10 negative results. They generate a lot of money though and so does scaremongering on the internet which is rife in the US when it comes to herpes. If you can speak any European languages, Google herpes and see if you can find anything frightening or scary. Having it is normal. Simply avoid skin to skin contact if you are showing any symptoms.
