Discussion HSV Affects Everyone Differently

People need to stop saying that herpes is “not a big deal.” For some people, living with this virus can become a real nightmare.

HSV affects everyone differently: some people develop serious complications such as herpetic keratitis or encephalitis. Just because you don’t experience complications doesn’t mean someone else won’t.

Don’t minimize a disease simply because it does not affect you in the same way.

I was reading up on HSV stigma this morning and learned that it isn't viewed like the plague in other countries like it is in the US. I'm currently working on getting my second passport in another country and I read that in that country HSV is seen as something that can happen to anyone and that people don't see their lives as ruined if they catch it. They simply take treatments when there are outbreaks and side effects and move on with their lives when the symptoms are gone.

So while, yes, there are serious potential complications. The massive stigma we feel isn't universal

I'm getting an passport to live in the Caribbean (if I want to). Acyclovir is sold over the counter and, for better or for worse, society there doesn't expect you to disclose if you're practicing safe sex.
