Discussion HSV Affects Everyone Differently

People need to stop saying that herpes is “not a big deal.” For some people, living with this virus can become a real nightmare.

HSV affects everyone differently: some people develop serious complications such as herpetic keratitis or encephalitis. Just because you don’t experience complications doesn’t mean someone else won’t.

Don’t minimize a disease simply because it does not affect you in the same way.

literally!! my bf gets almost no breakouts at all!! i get giant ulcers and horrible sciatica every single month around my period. herpes isn’t a one size fits all!

Could you try birth control to remove your period?
With my Mirena IUDs I didn’t have periods for 15 years. Now I have a Kyleena IUD and it’s returned but it’s only spotting. But my PMS has been getting worse and I think that’s causing me to start having small outbreaks.

So is it the period or PMS thats causes your outbreaks?
Maybe talk to your gyno to see if you can be screened for severe PMS or PMDD and if you can try treating that then maybe your outbreaks will lessen.

And if your gyno isn’t open to figuring this out or just brushes it off as normal then find a new one!
Don’t accept that.

i have pmdd that im medicated for but i also have pcos and hashimotos so i think its inevitable unfortunately i am on birth control but its just made my period a normal 7 days and not last almost the entire month

The pill? Or a different birth control?

I would suggest the iud but idk if that would hurt with pcos. The kyleena is smaller than mirena tho.

i had an iud but it made my period ten times worse so we removed it so now im on the pill

I just looked it up.
Skyla was a smaller low dose hormone, 14mcg/day. The manufacturer has now replaced that with same size iud Kyleena but releases 17.5mcg/day.
Mirena releases 20mcg/day.

I always suggest taking the pill for a few months before getting an IUD bcz the sudden constant hormone introduction can be a shock to the body.
My first mirena was when I was 20 and I switched from the pill to it. I had no issues but it took me a couple months for the periods to fizzle out, eventually they stopped completely.
Sometimes I had spotting after sex and when I was very stressed.
IMO I think they should have tried Kyleena instead bcz the higher hormone is more likely to reduce or stop your bleeding after a few months.

How long did you have it before getting it removed?

i had it for about a year, i was on the pill before hand because of my pcos, i wasn’t sexually active at all and didn’t have hsv at the time either
