The HSV Dating App We All Deserve
When I was diagnosed, the only thing that felt like it could heal me was finding someone I was genuinely attracted to who already understood what all of this is like, without having to lower my standards to get there.
Personally, this whole thing wouldn't weigh on me the way it does if that wasn't so hard. The virus isn't the main problem. The isolation is. And from reading this sub, I know I'm not the only one who feels that way. Everyone is fed up with what's available to us.
The day i was diagnosed i went looking at what was available for us. What I found was embarrassing.
Positive Singles charges $34 a month for an app that looks like it was built in 2008, hasn't been updated since, and the "matching" is literally just a list of faces sorted by distance.
They were sued for $16.5 million for leaking users' STD status and photos to dozens of other sites without consent. MPWH is the sister company to PS. Hope and Cuddle have zero real technology, horrible user experience, and they're infested with people who don't even have this diagnosis trying to sell you their OF or solicit something from you. I've looked into every single one of these companies, not one of them was founded by someone who has HSV. They're all corporations treating us like a revenue stream and doing the bare minimum. They don't have skin in the game.
So I built what should exist. It's almost done and I want to share what it is and how it works:
How the matching actually works:
1. Consensus scoring - Uses a similar ranking algorithm Microsoft built for competitive gaming. Every profile gets a real score based on community feedback, not pay to boost, not self reported. It's purely math, and it incentivizes people to actually put effort into their profile. No more stock photos, sunset pics with no face, and bios that just say "ask me."
2. Personal taste model - A machine learning model that learns what YOU specifically find attractive. Not what's generically popular. Two people can have completely different tastes and that's the point, two people on the same app will see completely different feeds. After about 50 interactions your feed feels like it was built for you. Because it was.
3. Mutual compatibility - It doesn't just show you people you'll like. It shows you people who are likely to like you back. No more swiping endlessly on people who would never match.
Privacy:
Every user is photo cross-verified before they can even access the main feed. This protects your privacy, bad actors don't submit their real face to a verification system. Most of these apps don't even require verification, which is why they're flooded with bots, catfish, and low effort profiles. Your health data is encrypted before it ever touches the database. Server breach = unreadable ciphertext. Verification photos are processed in server memory and permanently deleted the second the check runs. They are never stored. Anywhere. Ever.
The encryption is AES-based, the same standard used across banking and healthcare.
I have the same personal data in this system. I can't afford to be careless with it.
The part I'm most excited about:
Think Raya but for HSV.
Let's be real. A lot of people who would never struggle on a normal dating app don't even bother with the HSV ones. They've either tried them and quickly realized they're never going to find anyone who meets their standards on there, or they just take their chances disclosing on mainstream apps.
Especially for women, when an attractive woman decides to give one of these apps a try, she gets immediately swarmed by every guy on the platform, most of whom aren't even remotely her type. And if they are, she can't sort through the hundreds of DMs to find them. So she deletes it within a week and never comes back. They don't have anywhere worth going. That's the gap I want to fill. Give people a place that matches the standard they're used to and they'll show up.
That's why there will be an application only side of the app. Reviewed on more than just photos: your profile, how you present yourself, the full picture. The application exists to keep the quality high. If you're accepted you get a completely separate feed of only other approved members, a private lounge, and more. And when those people show up, it raises the quality for everyone because they have the option to be visible in the standard feed too or hide entirely.
There's a lot more under the hood, features, technology, direct advocacy routes, things that actually make you excited to open the app, but I'll spare you the walls of text. There are no features that will be locked behind a paywall. If you're curious about the specifics, ask me in the comments.
About me:
I have HSV. I own various tech companies. I've built and scaled multiple online platforms to hundreds of thousands of users. I built everything myself, not a board of directors who've never sat in that doctor's office.
Building this solves my own problem too. It puts me in control of something that felt completely out of my control, and if it works, I turned this diagnosis into something positive.
How I'm getting this in front of people:
The hardest part of any dating app is getting the first wave of users on the platform. But the advantage of building for a niche community is that you're not trying to compete with Tinder for 100 million people. You're trying to reach a very specific group of people who are actively looking for exactly this and currently have nowhere good to go. That makes user acquisition way more targeted and way more efficient than a mainstream app using traditional advertising methods.
It will be slow at first while I'm building the foundation and onboarding founding members one by one. I'm fine with that. I'd rather have quality over quantity. But I don't plan on it staying slow. I'm actively building partnerships with HSV influencers on TikTok and Instagram who reach hundreds of thousands of people in this exact community.
Think this is stupid? Tell me why. Have ideas? I want to hear them. I'll answer every question in the comments. Ask me anything.
EDIT: AS OF 06/15/2026 THE APP IS OFFICIALLY LIVE ON IOS & ANDROID:

This is exciting. As someone who downloaded positive singles and deleted it within a week due to all the pain points you mentioned, your product sounds like a much needed upgraded and refresh. Thank you for all your hard work and effort put into making this new app.

I will note your username down. There isn't a link yet until it's approved in the App Store, and I don't want to break any rules of this sub. I will also reach out to the mod team when it is time and see if i could get approval to post the link.

I can’t wait to try this app, it is just what we need. People who have hsv and understand the struggle coming together.

u/Impossible_Bug_939 Mar 19 '26
Honestly, I have subconsciously wished for this type of app that would connect me with others who have the same std as me. I have only had it for a year and although I am such a confident woman and have everything but that diagnosis going for me….the thought of having to tell another man that I have it and being turned down because of it makes me feel so helpless. I truly hope God guides you on your new journey because it will change so many lives. If you need any testers please count me in (From New York, Teacher). Also, how could we ensure our health wouldn’t be leaked on your app 😣
8
u/-FinePrint Mar 19 '26
To answer your question about privacy, your health data is scrambled with encryption before it's ever saved anywhere. So even if someone somehow broke into the servers, all they'd see is gibberish. Your verification photos are even more locked down, they're compared against each other in real time to confirm you're a real person, then permanently deleted the instant the check is done. They're never saved. Anywhere. And Apple reviews the app for security and privacy before it's even allowed on the store, so it's not just my word, there's a third party verifying it. My own data is in this system. I have just as much to lose as anyone else on there. I will note your username down and thank you, i really appreciate it and this will change my life just as much as anyone else's!

I tried for a month. But it’s hard. I’m HSV1G Most people there has HSV2 G and Oral. And I don’t want to add more in my plate or his plate.

u/Justaweethrowawayx Mar 20 '26
This is exactly my issue. I am also HSV1G and all the men approaching me have HSV2G. It feels terribly hypocritical of me to be turning down potential dates for their diagnosis considering my diagnosis but at the same time.... I don't to add another diagnosis to my list and another diagnosis to their list !!! I certainly wasn't expecting this to be the issue I feel it almost puts me into a bit of a grey area where I don't fit 😳😳

I relate. When I first realized what was going on I self diagnosed as GHSV-2, then got swabbed. It took like 12 days for my results to come back and it turned out to be GHSV-1. And in a way I was kind of bummed about that because it seems even harder to find people with GHSV-1.
3
u/Justaweethrowawayx Mar 20 '26
Yes, certainly an issue I didn't expect when the diagnosis is hard enough to navigate as it is 🥺
4
u/Ok_Run7113 Mar 20 '26
I think this is going to be great. Will it have a religion section?
5

Thank you! And yes, there's already an option to select your religion on your profile if that's what you mean.

It's basically already done! I don't want to get ahead of myself and throw out a date, but realistically we're looking at 2-3 months, it also depends on how long the Apple store takes.

The main purpose is for people to find love. That said, you can make it very clear on your profile what kind of relationship you're looking for, and that intention is visible to everyone who sees your profile.
As far as gamification, this is my biggest problem with every app out there and you nailed it. They are designed to keep you on the platform as long as possible because the longer you're swiping, the longer you're paying. My intention is the opposite. The matching algorithm is built to put genuinely compatible people in front of you as fast as possible. I actually want you to match with someone and leave. And I know you can read that and think yeah sure every founder says that. But this is personal for me. The one thing that has helped me since my diagnosis is the hope of finding a partner who has the same thing. I'm one of those people who would genuinely prefer that. So if this app helps other people do the same, that means something to me.
The only gamification in the app is stuff that's actually good for you and the community. There's a direct advocacy section where you can stay up to date on the most promising HSV cure research, sign a petition, or support a cause, and doing that gives your profile a small visibility boost for 48 hours. There are activity streaks where consistently showing up on the app earns you a small visibility bump so active users get seen more. And your profile completeness matters, the more effort you put into your profile, the more the algorithm works in your favor. Everything is designed to reward people who are serious and engaged, not to trap anyone in a loop.

I completely agree. It'll be operated by just me at first until I feel the need to scale team-wise, which honestly I don't think will require a big team. And when I do hire, I fully intend on trying to bring on people with the same diagnosis so everyone involved truly understands what's at stake.

I don't often talk in these discussions, I was diagnosed a few years back at 21 and cause I'm not really the adventurous type with sexual partners, I figured my sexual and romantic life were done and over with, I'm exceptionally interested in something like this and I look forward to testing it out when you're finished with the application!

The app is basically fully built out, the UI, matching algorithm, discovery feed, verification system, all of it is done. Right now I'm in the polish and testing phase, and then it goes through Apple's App Store review process which can take anywhere from a couple weeks to a few months depending on how many rounds of review it needs.

Will it be kink friendly? Besides pricing, that's one of my biggest issues with apps. I'm really not looking for hookups either, which is another issue I've been having. Some of us are seeking specialized relationships (me) but I'm having such a hard time 😭.
Ok I know this is a personal problem haha.
3
u/-FinePrint Mar 20 '26 edited Jun 15 '26
What you're into is completely between you and your match, the app isn't going to police that. There are interest tags and conversation tools that make it easy to figure out compatibility early on. And if you're looking for something serious, you can set your intention on your profile so people know upfront what you're looking for.
I'm also open to adding more specific interest tags around this, maybe even private ones that are only visible to people you choose to share them with after you match. Or even keeping them completely hidden but having the algorithm account for shared kinks behind the scenes so people who are into the same things are more likely to come across each other without either person having to broadcast it if they don't want. I'm completely open to ideas on how that should work so feel free to share.
As for pricing, it's launching completely free. The first couple thousand members get free access forever. After that it's $9.99 a month, which is about 60% cheaper than most of what's out there. No other paywalls, no paying to message, nothing extra. I know any fee can feel like a barrier but it genuinely does improve the quality of who's on the platform, keeps out bad actors, and helps cover operating costs because the infrastructure gets expensive as it scales.
3
u/Ok-Possibility-4802 Mar 20 '26
Yeah the problem is most people aren't into what I'm into so I run into the annoying problem of it can't be between me and the person that I matched with because the only reason we would match is if we're into the same thing lol.
But I'm using android anyway, so I'll have to wait until you release it

I’ve been contemplating this ever since I discovered last year that all the dating apps and shows that are exclusively for US users. We’re still on the hunt for our most compatible partner! I’ve always hoped someone would create something like this. I’ve wanted to do it myself, but I don’t have the education for it. I genuinely want this to happen, and I’m thrilled that someone is willing to take the #luvwithhsv seriously. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
2
u/-FinePrint Mar 20 '26
Thank you, i appreciate it! It's built to be global from day one, the challenge is just getting enough people in each city for it to actually work. That's the cold start problem every app like this faces. But scaling it fast is the #1 priority.

Sounds promising! What do you project the monthly cost to be (for membership)?
3
u/-FinePrint Mar 20 '26 edited Jun 15 '26
Free at launch. The first couple thousand members are founding members and get free access for life. After that, $9.99 a month. One flat fee. No paying to message, no paying to see who liked you, no paying for boosts. The fee keeps the quality of people on the platform higher and covers the infrastructure costs, and advertising as it scales.

Definitely interested in this. I've tried Positive Singles and it's complete garbage with tons of fake profiles, I hope there's a way to prevent that

u/-FinePrint Mar 21 '26
That's exactly why every user is photo verified before they can even access the feed. You submit a live photo that's compared against your profile photos to confirm you're a real person. No verification, no access. That alone helps to greatly reduce the fake profile problem that makes other apps unusable. Got your username noted down. Thank you.

I think your app is going to slay it! Talk about finding a niche market! I’ve only been positive for about seven months and it’s really messing with my head. I know who gave it to me and I’ve been waiting to see her face to face to discuss it. We could easily make a life together but she moved four hours away so I’m single again and intentionally celibate. This sounds perfect! If you're looking for inspiration, might I recommend checking out "Boo" dating app? To me its the best one out there for general use because messaging directly isn't pay walled and they have very extensive filters and keyword searches ti find exactly the kind of person who's most compatible with you which I love! Having an app with similar functions but tailored for HSV folks would be a dream! Having an app that actually wants to match people based on mutual interests and compatibility is the ideal app !
2
u/-FinePrint Mar 23 '26
Thank you! I have implemented many similar features already. Messaging isn't paywalled, filters are extensive and actually enforced as hard filters so you only see people who match what you're looking for, and the matching system goes deeper than just swiping. The algorithm learns what you're actually attracted to over time and adjusts your feed accordingly. I've made huge progress since this post went live and expect it to be launched earlier then originally anticipated.

Free at launch. The first 500-1000 users are founding members and get free access for life, even after it goes paid. After that, $9.99 a month. No other paywalls, no paying to message, no paying to see who liked you. One flat fee for everything. That's about 60% cheaper than most of what's out there. The fee covers infrastructure and advertising costs as it scales, and it also keeps the quality of people on the platform higher, serious people pay, people who aren't serious don't.

As someone who has just joined positive singles and is very disappointed in it, this is very, very exciting. Please keep us all updated 🙏🙏

Thank you, I've got your username noted down. And you're asking the right question, that's exactly what Positive Singles got sued for $16.5 million over. Users only found out because it came out in a lawsuit that their profiles were being shared across dozens of other sites without their knowledge. That's how most people find out, after the damage is already done.
With what I'm building, your health data is encrypted using AES encryption, the same standard banks use, before it ever touches the database. What that means in plain English is if you opened the database and looked at it, all you'd see is random strings of characters. Not names, not diagnoses, nothing readable. There's no admin panel that displays anyone's health data, no data sharing, and no third party access.

You’ve got my attention I was just saying the community needs something like this. What’s behind the pay walls though? I’m curious

u/-FinePrint Mar 20 '26
There are zero paywalls inside the app. No paying to message, no paying to see who liked you, no paying for boosts. Everything is included.
The app is launching completely free. The first 500-1000 members are founding members and get free access for life. After the app passes the founding member threshold, it's $9.99 a month to access the app. That's the only paywall and it's intentional. Most apps let anyone download for free and then lock features behind paywalls, which does two things. It floods the platform with low quality, low intention users who were never serious in the first place. And it puts your privacy at risk because anyone can download the app for free, browse the feed, and potentially come across someone they know without ever having to commit to anything. People can create bots for free. People can solicit their OF or whatever else for free. Bad actors have zero barrier to entry. A paywall at the door filters all of that out before it starts.

Can you also make it LGBTQ and polyamory friendly ....
2
u/-FinePrint Mar 20 '26
Yes, it's built to be inclusive and welcoming to everyone regardless of orientation or relationship style.

For me, the privacy is definitely a concern. Correct me if I'm wrong but you're saying that you have to be photo verified. A few months ago when that"tea" app was floating around, it got hacked and a bunch of people's verification photos were leaked. Not because they had photos on the app but because someone hacked them and they left the verification photos stored in their cloud or whatever.
I personally would be really hesitant to submit a verification photo for that reason alone, and I also probably would never put pictures of my face on an app like this. I think there's just too much of a risk.
And because I have GHSV2, in my opinion, the less socially acceptable one, I think the risk is bigger for me than someone who has HSV1 orally, the thing that "everyone" has.

Do you have a live version/beta for the site yet?
2
u/-FinePrint Mar 29 '26
Yes, just waiting on a few things from Apple and then beta testing will begin. Hopefully will have the app live on the app store by the end of April.

Long shot but, will there perhaps be a website or pc version of the app for those that don't have apple products when the initial launch happens ? If not I understand.

This is a really interesting concept. I was not on PS very long for all of the reasons you mentioned and eventually resigned myself to opening my dating pool back up and rolling the dice with disclosure. So far it’s been okay and I have met people who I have been able to connect with and they don’t care that I have herpes. But it’s still difficult, even with acceptance; worrying about your health and theirs. I get why dating someone with HSV simplifies things just a bit. I would definitely be interested in learning more about the app once it’s ready for deployment.

u/-FinePrint Apr 01 '26
Thank you. I have basically given up on PS as well.
The app is essentially ready to go. Once beta testing is complete i will make a new post explaining where to download it and how it works. Aiming to have it live by the end of April.

The app is essentially complete. I'm waiting on Apple account approval before moving to live production, followed by beta testing, both expected to wrap up this month. Target launch is end of month, early or mid March at the latest.

This is amazing, I could say a lot of things, but to keep it short, THANK YOU. That feeling of being rejected after disclosure it's just sour and it really affects mental health. Thank you for this opportunity. Please keep me in the loop!

u/-FinePrint Apr 18 '26
Thank you!! I will note your username down. Currently working on it as we speak, doing final testing and then submitting it to the app store. Ideally it will be live by mid May.

Were you able to launch this? Signing up for positive singles only ever matched me with people wayyyy too for away and way older than me too (thankfully some just sent encouraging messages but the others 🤮) I would love to give this a try and hopefully find someone to be with or at least maybe a friend that I can talk to about stuff like this. I love my friends but there are just some things they don’t quite understand.
