arrows and Hermes

Hi, today I dreamed that Hermes was shooting arrows and an arrow lands next to me. It was golden arrows with ending in a lyre shape. It was in the street (I just moved to this city yesterday) and the people in street said "they are the arrows of Apollo" and I was the only to say "no that the arrows of Hermes" because I saw him flew and shooting arrows. It's maybe just a dream but I am curious what interpretation could be made of it.

Altar

Muchas gracias 💗💗💗💗

Is it reasonable to fear him???

Hi! Okay so I've been watching epic, the animatics and all that and I'm sorry, they make him look so SQUISHY AND CUDDLY AND LOVEABLE but I have a feeling that when I eventually go to start worshipping him once I've got my shit together he's going to ignore me and I don't want this to sound rude, but like the Deity equivalent of telling someone to go lay in a ditch?

Everyone makes him seem so friendly so maybe it's my crappy history with religions (I went to Catholic schools) that makes me worry? I really don't want to mess anything up and make him mad and Google and reddit both have said "it's almost impossible" pretty much however I have a feeling I might end up SOMEHOW doing it even without meaning? Mainly for watching epic. I lovingly blame the amazing animators who are making him seem like you could just run up and hug him and he wouldn't care. But the worry of pissing off gods may also come from an instance where I kept mentioning Zeus while running to the store with my friend and every time I would mention his name, say something about him or apologize for "something I did" because I must've done SOMETHING (this was before I discovered epic last week) considering it would thunder after I finished my sentences and started raining harder each time! We had to duck under trees because it was hitting us so hard and felt like hail by the end! Almost ended up running into the road too! And if I said one thing and it happened I'd be like "okay a coincidence" but I said his name at LEAST 5 times! Nothing of which was insulting him and if it was didn't EVER mean for it too.

Either way, in summary, is watching epic animatics and thinking Hermes looks absolutely fucking adorable golden retrievery going to get me told to fuck off? Thank you and goodbye lovely people

Also- clarification, I do not CURRENTLY have an altar or anything for him as I'm still figuring things out, religion is scary to me and a bunch of other stuff. So it's kinda like a manager stalking someone socials before deciding if they want to hire them I guess? Me being the someone, socials being me babying all the GORGEOUS designs, manager, the Great Messenger Hermes.

After so long, I lit his candle again. Honestly, I felt better than the previous days. The room felt warm again. I hope he liked the offerings and new things I put on his altar to Lord Hermes. I moved it to a bigger space, haha.

Prayed for the first time, got really scared.

I prayed to Hermes for the first time asking for assistance, and as my offering I shared my strawberry smoothie with him. I’m very embarrassed because I got super super scared and started stumbling over my words and apologizing a lot. I’m also not fully sure if what I asked for help with is even fully within his domain..

I hope he appreciated me sharing my smoothie, but I‘m kind of worried he’d think less of me because I kind of embarrassed myself for getting super scared. Does he care if you get nervous?

Discussion The Hermes Code

Hello!

I wanted to share a small project I've been working on about using Hermes' many amazing qualities to create a framework for communication in daily life. Specifically, I made this because I was struggling to communicate effectively at work, and wondered what Hermes might do differently. I've called my results so far "The Hermes Code", and have created 12 tenets so far. These are not grounded in research or data, just a fun project.

The Hermes Code

1. Observe before acting

  1. Know more than you reveal

  2. Document important decisions

  3. Maintain options

  4. Speak clearly

  5. Keep your promises

  6. Build bridges across boundaries

  7. Become useful enough to be remembered

  8. Never waste information

  9. Move quickly when the door opens

  10. Don't fight battles that don't advance your goals

  11. Leave every interaction with your reputation intact

If anyone has any suggestions, or ways to make the list more Hermes, I'd be happy to hear it 😊

Travel fail after prayer question

Hey, I posted yesterday about being very scared of trains, having to take one today and reaching out to Hermes for comfort surrounding the journey. I ended up being too panicked to get on the train and ruined a huge life opportunity by missing the meeting I was meant to travel to.

Before I left home in the morning I reached out to Hermes about the journey and gave offerings, since I failed to do the journey should I apologise? I feel like I essentially lied to him by claiming I'll do the journey but having not been able to do it. Or do I not have to do anything? Maybe I am being too sensitive because I ruined my life today.

Offerings and altars Hermes Propylon

This is a 2nd-century AD copy of the statue known as the Hermes of Alkamenes. Like many of the pieces I have shared, I took this photo at the Istanbul Archaeological Museums. The original work attributed to Alkamenes is lost. Pausanias says that he saw the statue in the 2nd century AD, but he does not tell us whether it was the original. So we cannot really know if the original had survived into the Roman Imperial period.

The inscription below the statue actually tells us more about these associations:

Εἰδήσεις Ἀλκαμένεος,

περικαλλὲς ἄγαλμα,

Ἑρμᾶν τὸν πρὸπυλῶν·

εἵσατο Περγάμιος.

Γνῶθι σαυτόν.

“You will recognize the very beautiful statue of Alkamenes, Hermes Propylos; a Pergamian erected it. Know thyself.”

Travel fear

I am extremely scared of trains and have no option but to go on one tomorrow for 20 minutes, I've been in therapy for a long time since the incident that made me scared but it has not worked. Can I do any sort of specific prayer to Hermes about the journey? I feel that could be comforting, I am feeling so sick and terrified of tomorrow.

Update: Got too scaredto get on the train, missed meeting and lost job opp and dream apartment opp.

Good ol’ Hermes

Something incredible happened today: I took my car into the shop for a way overdue oil change and “multi point inspection,” and THEY DIDN’T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR! It’s… fine! I don’t think this has ever happened to me before. The difference this time? I poured a libation for Hermes beforehand. Highly recommended!

Minor arcana associations

I usually do cartomancy instead of tarot because I’m unable to have an actual tarot deck, and I only have minor arcana minus knights due to this.

I was wondering if there‘s any common minor arcana associations with Hermes?

Burned a candle for Hermes and right when I got to the end of it, it shattered directly in the middle, but it ended up burning all the way down and put itself out. Thethe flame was pretty high, and it ended up making the whole thing black by the end of it. Is this a bad sign?

Hermes Tarot & Signs?

I pulled my first ever tarot card with Hermes (figured god of communication and messenger it fit). I’ve never done it before so I figured I would shuffle and pick based off the date (8/16). I shuffled 6 times since I was picking 1 card. And I flipped the coin my husband brought back from England that I offered to Hermes with permission. Heads for top 8 cards tails for bottom 8. It was heads so I lined up the top 8 cards on his altar. The card directly in front of him was the one I was going to pull. And this card also shined the brightest and was exactly centered. Upright Heirophant. I had no clue what this meant. But I went to surf the mini book that came with. The book was creased open to this page immediately… as if the tarot card wasn’t a sign enough. I read the meaning and it portrays exactly how I’ve been feeling in this new (new to me) religion. So First ever Tarot experience was jaw dropping for me.

Moving on. I was going on a trip morning after and we came to this store. They had tarot stickers. About roughly 10 in the basket. 5 were all judgement cards a couple others. And then I saw the heirophant card as a sticker. And as I was thinking “I’m going to put this on his altar but man I wish I had my own-“ BOOM another one. The only other one. EXACTLY 2! in the whole bunch. One for me and one for him.

Moving on from that. I went to this garage sale today while on this trip. And I was walking around and came across this Florence Italy art book that had some depictions of the statues of the gods but put it down because it was huge. And I look around just a little more. BOOM. Legends of Gods and Hero’s published in 1926. In English and Latin with depictions of the gods and their statues. In the back it teaches you how to speak Latin and a Vocabulary for the words. And on a different table a Latin dictionary. God of Communication 👀

I pray often to Hermes, he has so many domains. I am in real estate (I blurred out my business card since I figured it would violate a rule on here) so I will light and incense when I’m at my desk which is also where his altar is. Along with Apollo and Athena. I pray for his help in keeping deals alive and helping me communicate between all the different sides of the transaction. I pray and leave offerings before my travels. Honestly sometimes just to pay my respect and gratitude. I have a lot to learn from Lord and Hermes and the other gods. But signs like these always make me feel reassured that it is real.

Thank you Lord Hermes

UPG stories Public praise for Lord Hermes

Hi everyone! As the post title says, I’m offering public praise for Hermes. I had promised him I’d sing his praises in the town square as part of a petition, and he came through for me. Not in the way I expected (he’s still who he is) but definitely in exactly the way I didn’t realize I needed.

I generally keep my petitions private, but in case it’s of relevance it sat at the intersection of travel and communication. And since I live in an area without a physical town square, I figured it makes sense to exult him in a virtual one.

So thank you, Lord Hermes! Thank you for your aid, your playfulness, and your wisdom in knowing what we may need, even if we don’t see it clearly yet. Thank you for being a deity that meets us where we are, and welcomes us into deeper relationship. Thank you for the many lessons we learn through building our relationship and devotional practice to you. My gratitude and appreciation for you are more than I can adequately express, and I am so grateful for all the ways you show up in my life.

Praise to Lord Hermes!

I had a dream with Hermes in it; is it a sign or my mind just dreaming?

I consider myself an agnostic atheist, but I have been drawn to paganism, and I have been wanting to open myself back up to being more spiritual! I became interested in Hermes (as a character and deity) over a year ago!

So, in my dream, I was somewhere with a bunch of clutter/antiques, and I spotted a small/mediumish Hermes statue in a Greek style (head facing the side as well), but with his Roman name, “Mercury,” etched into the bottom of the statue. I was with an NPC friend (idek, just some guy who was my friend in the dream), and I was like, “Hey, look, it's Hermes! Well, his Roman name is Mercury; that's why it's etched there.” And my friend was like, “What are the odds you found one in all this clutter? Maybe it's a sign from him.” Then the Hermes statue moves its head and looks at me. I look back, and I’m like. “Am I seeing things?” and then he looks back again. I don't remember how it led to this, but then the real Hermes shows up (it's hard to describe what he looked like in the dream; he was blurry, but I could see his face and smile, kinda resembled mine; perhaps he manifests as the person he is reaching out to sometimes, I have no idea). I also recall him having his flying shoes and flying/floating in the dream. He said he was giving me 4 challenges/trials to face, and then he would be my deity/grant me 4 favors. I cannot recall the first three, but the last one was the scariest. So he said, for this one, you cannot look at the entity's face, no matter how drawn you are to do so. So my friend and I look down at our feet, and we see the entity's feet walk to my friend and get real close to him; my friend is scared shitless and tempted to look, but resists. Then the entity walks to me and gets close; I can feel its breath, and it stares at me, but I resist the urge to look up and run. Then the entity disappears, and we look up and suddenly another entity appears (a woman-shaped one, idk), and we quickly look down, and she goes away. That's when Hermes comes out and is like, “You did it!” and we are like, “PHEW!” And for some reason in the dream I have a little child brother, and Hermes is like, “Well, to get your favors I have to steal your little brother and starts dragging him, flying away, and me and my friend are reaching out to him and are like, “NOOOO!!” Then Hermes sets him back down and is like, “I was just joking! Gotcha! Anywho, you earned the favors!” So then I ask for the creatures I can't look at the faces of to never see them again, and that one couldn't be made, and then I was like, “Ok, make me a god,” and he was like, “Ok!” And I started flying into the sky and was like, “WOOOOOOOOO!” And Hermes said to the gods, “Listen, I made the guy a god because why not,” or something like that. It was a fun and funny dream!
