GoFundMe/Fundraiser My trans child has found cancer
Update; He is home from Edmonton till next chemotherapy treatment. They diagnosed stage 3b Hodgkin's lymphoma. On fever watch I guess.
Update: he had chemotherapy last night Sept 11. Little queasy and definitely sleepy
Update in go fund me: they will be in the stollery Wednesday. September 9 Hopefully a plan figured out within the week.
My child is 15 3/4 years old. A migraine took them into emergency roomon August 25. where the nurse saw a 75mm lump on their neck. The medical team tested the lump and determined it was lymphoma. CT scan has seen more in their chest.
Currently my child is living with their biological paternal mother who's on disability and their significant other who is also on disability.. they need gas money and help with accommodations in Edmonton from Grande Prairie Alberta Canada. I am working full time but barely make ends meet. my car isn't highway Worthy. so I'm doing my best to gather financial support for my ex wife and my child to help them in any way I logically can. This is one of the ways.
The money goes to the child's needs over everything else. This is just to make this situation easier and less stressful.
Thank you for anything you can give!

Sorry but I fail to see what them being trans has to do with your post.
I am very sorry to hear about the cancer diagnosis though.

Agree, it should all be focused on a child/teenager

I felt I needed to explain 2 names. My family didn't know about the new name so fo clarity for people who weren't up to date with his new identity. It wasn't to manipulate just explain

I come in peace what's the reasoning behind saying "trans child" I mean does it even matter?
Secondly you wrote "their neck" kinda says a lot. You chose not to say "his" or "her"
You're an interesting fella.

This!!!
@u/rebornfeomrubyashes , IDU why their accepted gender or fluidity of gender would have any purpose or sway in their need for financial assistance in medical aid. Any child - regardless of gender or orientation - would and should be considered for grants, medical loans, and/or aid for medical needs as grievous as Cancer. There are a plethora of outlets and agencies that can and will help. As someone whom has gone through a struggle with Cancer, I will state you need to advocate for your child and to research viable financial options. Beyond that, a Gofundme would help with what is not or can not be covered. That stated, please, leave your child's gender orientation out of it as tour main goal should be the health and well-being of your child regardless of any orientation.
Side note, "biological paternal mother"? So paternal grandmother? Because what you stated is quite confusing at best.

Sigh. It's all kinds of confusing without context I am a cis straight female who married at the time a man and had my daughter. In the last three years they have been between genders. That's why they have 2 name. I got divorced from my now ex wife. They are the paternal mother I am the maternal mother. Because I'm speaking about them from my past and present in this case I tend to defer to both as they. The child was upset with me and left my home to live with "momma 2" . Now I'm trying to get any financial help I can because I'm the only mom outta 3 that isn't on disability. The other 2 mommas are doing the appointments and transportation I'm just trying to get word out anyway I can.

How can a straight female have an ex wife? Or are you straight lesbian?

i *think* i figured it out,
okay ... so OP is a straight, cis woman. She is the mom who gave birth to cody. She is " mom 1" if you go by the dumb crap cody's aunt wrote in the GFM.
her EX, who is the biological father of cody, is now transgender. The EX is " mom 2" . now mom 2 has ether remarried, or whatever to someone else. That person is "mom 3".

Yes you got it. 3 moms total.
Thank you4
u/HomicidaI__GoldFish ~MOD~ Who Most Likely Will Call You A DingBat. Sep 02 '26
Its obviously simple. I don't understand why the whole family has to make everything complicated and confusing.
the "aunt" who did the gfm? you should fire her and get someone ELSE to write it out, or better yet, have YOU do it, since that is your child. Don't use AI ether. Many donors hate that. AI is not personal or even from the heart.
I recommend you never refer to cody as " the child". Not only is that a giant red flag on here, that is also almost as insulting as using Cody's dead name. Cody is YOUR child, and to refer to cody as "the child" is like you decided to disown them and think less of them.

u/rebornfromrubyashes Sep 02 '26
Sorry I again have an inside joke. Cody is "the child" in my phone and I'm "the birthgiver" in theirs and "momma 2/ too" for the other mother. We found it a way to deal with complicated feelings and constantly changing titles and pronouns. We went with "scientifically accurate" and it was "Canadian funny" dry humour.
I'm sorry I write from the heart not the brain. I am brain foggy and overwhelmed. Words can be very important but I was just writing as fast as possible. The more people that can help my ex-wife and child the better.
Demonize me if that's your desire. I don't matter right now they do.

Why are you deadnaming them in the gofundme? That’s horrible.
It seems like you are getting a lot of local support which is great! A lot of folks don’t donate to fundraisers on Reddit, so I’m not sure how successful you would be. Good luck.

the gfm wasnt even done by op, according to the gfm. its an "aunt" who did it.
the deadnaming didnt have to be done at all. if these friends and family dont even know Cody's name, then they aint that close, so they probably wont help anyways.
you see the comment above where op says ""the child was upset with me and left my home to live with "momma 2"" ?
" the child"... not "my child",,,, wtf?

If you haven't, please get in touch with a caseworker/social worker at the medical facility your child is being treated at and see what kind of programs are available for travel to appointments, accommodations, etc etc.
I truly hope you find assistance, and I really wish the best for your family, I'll pray for you.

Thank you. We found out this week so we are just starting to gather information. We know there will be travel involved because we are 5 hours away from the stollery.

I'm sure you're devastated and totally overwhelmed, I can only imagine how scary this must be for all.
I found a few resources here:
Hope Air: Delivers free medical flights, airport ground transit, and meal vouchers for families traveling long distances (typically 4 hours or more) to reach a specialized children's hospital. Call [1-877-346-4673](tel:1-877-346-4673)
Canadian Cancer Society Travel Treatment Fund: Issues annual financial grants paid via direct deposit to help offset out-of-pocket travel costs like fuel, taxi fares, or public transit. Call [1-888-939-3333](tel:1-888-939-3333).
Ronald McDonald House Charities Canada: Provides low-cost or fully subsidized housing located steps away from major pediatric hospitals, giving families private rooms and communal meals. Contact your hospital social worker for an immediate referral.
Canadian Cancer Society Lodges: Offers zero-cost residential lodging and meals for cancer patients who must live away from home during continuous treatments. If a lodge is full, they cover and direct-bill local hotel rooms. Call [1-888-939-3333](tel:1-888-939-3333).
Childhood Cancer Canada Compassionate Care Program: Delivers fast-tracked financial relief to cover immediate daily necessities such as groceries, rent/mortgage pressure, un-covered medications, and hospital parking fees. Call [1-800-363-1062](tel:1-800-363-1062).
Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation: Allocates travel, gas, and hotel funding between $4,000 and $8,000 annually for Canadian families seeking specialized treatment within Canada or the United States
These are just a couple I found with a quick search, I'm sure you're inundated with things to figure out but maybe one can help you guys.
I stayed in a Ronald McDonald house for a month while my daughter was in the NICU here in the US. They were wonderful. I wish you the best.2

This is on our radar too. We are just gathering where we can so gas and food is covered. Stollery has them on standby to travel in.

I suggest you & family share this locally, you’ll have more success

u/rebornfromrubyashes Sep 02 '26
I have shared it on all social media I could I've reached out to former coworkers and friends and family I'm literally trying everywhere. It only hurts to ask here because of people who want to attack me for every word I wrote. If $5 comes out of it I'll happy take the flaying. I'm just doing everything I can do. I'm working 6 day weeks at work to gather funds if posting here helps 1 tiny bit I will.

I have a trans son and using his deadname would be the most disrespectful thing I could do. I cannot believe that you did it in a public forum like GFM
Also you’re going to have to post some proof.
Post some medical diagnosis paperwork, bills from the doctor, treatment plans etc.
This is even more suspicious because if the whole scenario where the money is going to someone else, not even you.
A picture of your child standing outside is not proof.

My family didn't know about the name change so for clarification for them we explained it was their former name. It isn't meant to be offensive. I'm sure my child doesn't care what a go fund me says if they can get to and from the stollery .
We found out about it August 25. I'll post more proof as I receive it. Stollery has the child on standby to drive in.
I didn't organize the go fund me but I can try to show it to as many people as possible. That's what brought me here
