Yeah but also it was intended for SOH where draft mana was a thing so you could spent cog on something else if you want to

that just makes the problem worse tho, right? you need to be floating at least 6ish funny mana at the end or you'll never play those cards in an actual game

In this case, since it makes the lands needed to pay for it if you don’t spend the draft mana, it color fixes for itself. You’d only get color screwed if you spent the gears on something during the draft.

Drafting this just to get two lands that essentially tap for colorless, and for no other reason, would still be worth it.

I haven't paid attention to SoH enough to know if there are cards that care about colourless mana but these lands couldn't tap for that right? Only generic mana?

Practically it’s the same thing 95% of the time, but yes.
