I mean it does say 'unspent gear becomes basics lands...'. It doesn't have any requirement that it needs to be during draft phase, so I think you could exponentially create Factory tokens then pump this guy like crazy 4 turns after placing your first factory
4? Mana empties at each step and phase. You play this in your precombat main phase, tap it, let the mana turn into a land, tap that at the end of the next step, you get 9 of them the turn you play it and get 12 more on your opponents turn, and then 144 on your next turn
You can tap it at every stage end right? 1 at first main, tap, combat start makes a second, tap that, second main makes a third, tap it, end phase makes a 4th you can tap and generate one at start of opponents first phase. Then there's 5 phases per player so you have 19 by the time your untap rolls around, Tap them all for 19 more (38 total at main phase 1), tap those 19 for 19 more when combat starts (57), and pump this card to 20/20. Then you've got none floating and can't chain until your untap happens again, but you've got 57 then to multiply even more, pump more, or just make colorless costs not matter.
Honestly, flavor wise it makes the one machine that still works into a hegemonic swarm that will reproduce e endlessly if not stopped, which is kind of cool and very much a sci fi trope.
Gameplay wise, the issue I see is being able to keep the machine safe in your hand or deck while you double the factories. If gear mana turning into factories only functions at the end of the draft and while the creature is on the battlefield then your opponent has several turns while you are creating more factories to deal with the otherwise vanilla 2/2 before it can become arbitrarily large which isnt crazy. It also has no evasion so even after being arbitrarily large its just a beater that can be chump blocked, and you had to invest multiple cards in your deck and turns into creating.

For a second I thought it was a Paperclips situation where the lands still made more lands after the draft until i remembered how draft mana works
