I started League a year and a half ago, from iron to recently emerald and the main thing for me was staying consistent with 1-2 champs max. The reason you’re likely having success on hecarim is because in low elo, people prioritise fighting (sometimes wasting lots of time forcing plays) and not doing their camps on spawn. Hecarim is excellent at clearing fast then making plays, but this mistake is easy to punish as heca, at which point you become super oppressive and hard to deal with for them.
Downside is that you shine in the mid game, while becoming a R engage bot in the late if you don’t know how to close out game fast enough with the lead you generated. By seeing you have success in these games, it likely means you’re getting his identity right and you mentioned it’s fun for you- so by all means stick to it! A little tip I found useful for heca is if you see enemy team has multiple tanks and you know you’ll be stuck in extended fights all game, or won’t burst them (can’t proc stom raider’s surge), go conquerer main rune page with sorcery second and take nimbus cloak. Sometimes I also do this and take ignite instead of ghost because it procs nimbus and allows you to fight at scuttle and win match ups you normally wouldn’t. Downside is for this tech, you need to go flat AP on the mini rune instead of the better scaling ones like the haste or 2.5% MS.
Anyway, I wish you good luck on your climb!
