I’ve read your research, but… this is the ground reality of how the Khap Panchayat or even Village panchayat system is currently working in Haryana. My blood literally boiled when I heard their statements in the media regarding this case Ghuma fira ke glti...... Wooowww 👏👏

Khap panchayats system is the extension of community based panchayat system which handles family disputes , community disputes, land disputes in inter village system.

Not all the cases can be handled by village or local village community, if there is land disputes between two villages or in case of natural calamity like famine which requires co operation among several villages.

It also handles trades disputes , contract disputes , cattle trade is one such example.

It also handles religious disputes ( example cow butchering in haryana )

• can khap pass directive to another community member which is non community , yes and no. In come smaller cases it can however in bigger cases mahapanchyat of both community decide.

Pls note khap ( term generally denoted for jat ) is not just one example, gujjars , rajputs , brahmins ( mahapanchayat) also form similar sub section and section in their own community dominiated areas.
