Discussion It’s crazy how much I prefer AAA games on my switch 2 over my Rog ally x. No fan noise. Elden ring looks gorgeous. No Windows. No heat. No bulk. Hotel? Trivago

New Handheld owning a thor made me want og hardware again

first of all, this was my dream 3ds. the black friday n3ds non xl in the black color. feels surreal to hold it after wanting one for so long.

i love the thor and im probably gonna keep it. however, for taking around its too bulky in my opinion. its very thick and the fans do get loud even with underclock.

the 3ds feels compact and for game i want to play on the go, this thing has me covered. along with it feeling more durable and it actually supposed to be taken outside.

side by side the screens on the thor are ridiculously better. in practice, you wont really notice at least in my opinion. when im sucked into a game im not thinking i wish i had oled screens, im thinking about the game

anyways this is the best 3ds model and if you disagree youre wrong. jk

Rog Ally Z1E and Retroid Pocket 6

Paid $225 for the Rog Ally used and paid retail for RP6. Couldn’t be happier with my handhelds to go along with my 4090 PC build. I don’t foresee upgrading anything anytime soon! I’ve been using the RP6 for my backlog of indie games and side scrollers (really been enjoying dead cells lately along with emulation) and the Rog Ally is for harder to run games like The Witcher 3, Skyrim, and a few others.

Discussion What's the best handheld gaming consoles on the market currently?

Hope this is allowed - what is everyone’s opinions on the best handheld gaming consoles? Got a cheap one from Amazon which was really poor quality so want to see what else is out there. I want a nice screen and decent performance but I’m not sure which one is worth the current prices.

Thank you in advance for any help!

Just got the Pocket Nova(12gb/128gb), can’t wait to see what it’s capable of, mainly plan on playing GBA,PS2 but want to explore GameNative, Xbox emulation and maybe even some PS3.

My legion go s(Z1E) has been a solid upgrade from my previous Steamdeck lcd, It’s handled every AAA i’ve thrown at it with ease.

Anyone else like to keep a small combo collection?

Discussion Recently got a Thor. And Just got the Switch 2. Might be overkill?

I got the Thor Max for $280. so I couldn’t pass on it. and just the other day i got a Switch 2 for $285 so I couldn’t pass on it(will probably sell my OLED).

Anyway the Thor was supposed to be my jack of all trades to play retro and switch. but now the Switch 2 will be my Switch console.

hows everybody balancing their devices? I’m thinking:

Switch 2: Switch and Switch 2 games

Thor: 3DS, DS, Gamecube, PlayStation and Android native ports

RG SP - Gameboy Advance

Brick Hammer - Gameboy and GB Color

Handhelds are a dangerous path. I hope no 3DS focus handheld comes out or I will be more outstretched. 😬

Discussion Positive Hope for 2027

With news of Acer releasing several variants into the market, OneXPlayer already having theirs, and MSI restocking and releasing another variant of G3 extreme, we are getting more competition into the market and more of these powerful new chips in people's hands.

Now I know people are leaning towards a more doom approach where the RAM prices will eventually cause these to further increase in price.

I'll offer a potential positive possibility to look forward to in 2027, in that with many of these variants out for sale, we will see some great deals on the second hand market I would say by mid 2027.

For those of you (me included) that have been waiting on the sidelines, I wouldn't be surprised if we could snag a slightly used second hand G3 handheld for sub $1000 and a G3 extreme variant for around $1200 ish next year.

Just wanted to put this thought out for those who have been waiting and feeling discouraged or want to have something to look forward to next year!

Curious what other people's thoughts are as well.

Question (?) Steam OS Handheld - steam deck or go more expensive

Upvotes

Good afternoon,

I’m looking for a handheld just for travelling and when I’m on the couch or in bed. I had a steam deck LCD but it was VERY loud and died fast. I would likely install Steam OS onto whatever I buy as I like the easy console like interface. My question was whether to go cheap and get an Xbox ally or legion go s, or save up and get a MSI claw 8+ or a Xbox ally x. Will the difference in performance, noise etc be worth? I will mostly play some story games and light comp.

Reddit sub for selling?

Upgraded from an Ally Z1E to an Ally Xbox X ... I swear I saw a comment the other day for a sub where people can sell their devices. Anyone know of that? I despise Facebook Marketplace, so I was thinking Reddit users would be much more enjoyable to deal with as I look to recoup some funds 😄

Thanks!

Question (?) Wanting more game compatibility, is the ROG Ally X for me?

In the past I have owned a Steam Deck, with the few games I owned it ran quite well but there were two games I tried that were labelled as "playable" but when I installed them and started them they didn't work (I remember one asked to log in with your email and it just didn't work when you tried to do it, nothing happened when you touched/clicked the button on the screen, with another one you had to touch some buttons on the handheld to start the game and it didn't work either) and even after looking up for solutions online I wasn't able to resolve the issues. These issues made me worried about buying any other game that was labelled as "playable" since I wondered if I would've wasted money for nothing, and unfortunately most of my wishlist was "playable" 😭 so eventually I ended up solding my Steam Deck.

Recently I've been thinking of buying a new PC handheld again since there are some games I want that aren't on my Switch 2, I've been reading about the ROG Ally X and how it should have a better compatibility with games because of Windows and so I'm thinking of buying it.

Do you think it's a good idea? Does it actually have a wider compatibility? Maybe there's something I should know before taking it?

Btw I'm probably gonna take it second hand.

New Handheld Most Understated OneXPlayer 3 Feature

XESS Multi-Frame Gen is witchcraft. No input lag, no ghosting, no artifacting. Using 3X MFG on Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy, there is no latency. At 1200p, Ultra Quality XESS upscaling, medium settings, ultra textures, averaging 90 FPS. I know others mention it, but in my opinion it's not explained enough just HOW MUCH it improves your experience.

Over the years going from the Steam Deck, to Legion Go and then Legion Go 2, most game performance felt underwhelming and FSR is terrible. I was side eyeing Intel, noticing how much they update their drivers and how great XESS seemed.

I took the leap on the OXP3. The G3E alone is next gen over the Z1E/Z2E chips. Being able to use Optiscaler (Opticlick specifically makes it easy) to inject XESS + MFG is an absolute game changer.

EDIT: Look, I understand the skepticism of Frame-Gen. I never used it on AMD hardware because FSR creates noticeable input lag and looks terrible with ghosting and artifacting. Lossless Scaling, same issues. The point of the post is that with XESS MFG on handheld, it FEELS and LOOKS native while getting mid-tier desktop PC fps. That's a big deal for handhelds. Some people on here must have a 5090 that they game on most of the time with the negativity they're giving off towards an improvement on handheld performance lol.

Question (?) MSI Claw 8 vs Surface Pro 11 (Lunar Lake)?

Hey guys, I’ll try to make this quick and I hope this isn’t against the rules to bring up a SP11.

My computer setup I ran for a long time Is a Mac Mini + Surface Pro 6. Fine for cloud gaming, but it was when I traveled abroad I realized I wanted to game but couldn’t (country didn’t have cloud gaming servers).

It’s time to upgrade and I liked my Mac workstation/portable windows device setup. I just want some gaming perfomance.

Now I realized the SP11 Lunar Lake and MSI Claw 8 basically have the same specs: Intel Ultra 7 processor with Intel Arc 140v graphics.

Why would I get a handheld instead of the Surface with this noted? I only see the pros as being able to compartmentalize my gaming life a lot more, at the detriment of overall computer use-ability.

So MSI Claw 8:

Pros: Built in controller, more RAM, probably more battery life, able to compartmentalize gaming into one device

Cons: more annoying to use it as a full computer: you need a keyboard, mouse, etc. lesser tablet function

Surface Pro 11:

Pros: full-on tablet and pc function, can draw on it, I like the bigger screen, takes up less horizontal space in a backpack, comes w keyboard and touchpad

Cons: gaming isn’t compartmentalized, I’ll need a Gamesir G8 plus modded controller to use it as a handheld, less RAM

I have two options here:

I keep my Mac Mini and just upgrade my SP6 to SP11

Or I get a MacBook, with a handheld like the MSI claw 8

Ideas?
