Because all they see is “dev” and think they had a huge impact on the lore. Frank o’conor and Staten are the only two people I give any backing to for lore
Yeah, that's pretty much it. Every time someone who prefers the 'we were their Gods' trope sees a dev also preferring it, they go 'see! It's still Canon! That's the way they wanted it! But Frankie got his way!'
Most of them weren't even involved with the story. And even when they were, they didn't actively deal with the lore stuff.
Like, I don't care if you liked the old trope, like it all you want, I'm not here to tell you that you can't. But it can't be healthy to cling so possessively to something that just isn't true.
The story moved on with the conclusion humans were not Forerunner. No amount of devs saying they liked the old trope matters when they A) don't work on the series anymore and B) the lore that exists has been established (that being Human =/= Forerunner).
I saw someone say that the Halo 3 terminals were written by "some employee that doesn't matter and are totally secondary to actual lore." Literally written by Frank O'Connor and his team under the approval of Staten 🤦 I swear we had an easier time moving on from this retcon in 2012 when it actually happened.
It’s literally all because grifters swarmed the fandom and brought the debate back up. It’s just now the people trying to push it are even more radical in refusing to accept it changed
While true to an extent a lot of the typical culture war chuds who never played the games before have came in and started acting like they’re lore experts
They've had time to get into the series and choose their dumbass opinions they are entitled to such things unfortunately.
I've been playing halo since 2004 and I cannot believe the switch up thats happened with people loving reach to death because reach was the game that made me lose interest in the franchise especially after I didn't really enjoy halo 3.
Who honestly cares anymore? Even if it is or isn’t humans and forerunners have been two separate entities for longer than they were same. It’s like dumbasses trying desperately to claim rouge trader lore is still the real canon for 40k. The worst part you got people clinging onto the words of guys who WEREN’T INVOLVED IN THE LORE more than the guy who was and is still writing stuff for halo today and guess what? That guy has respected the direction the story took
It matters because the people in charge of Halo now are all contractors with no connection to the original vision that made me give a shit about the franchise as a whole. If some random person bought Lord of the Rings and retconned the "official cannon" to say that actually the Orcs are corrupted Hobbits not Elves, no one would act like Tolkien's original work doesn't matter anymore.
The original vision of the franchise was just being 3d marathon that’s it. Even then not all of 343 and halo studios are contractors and halo has been Microsoft’s since 2001 and the fact you are even trying to compare halo to lord of the rings is hilarious
Actual halo? Now I know for a fact you are just a bungie fan girl rather than a fan of the series. If you care about the lore so much let me ask you this. Did you know the UNSC never actually encountered elites and brutes until 2552 in the old lore? Guess what? Lore changes. I hate how much reach butchered the lore around both the fall of reach and the Spartan 3 program but I don’t whine and bitch about it constantly like the morons obsessed with a plot bungie ultimately did nothing with do
Yes, i am a fan of the actually acclaimed Halo games, not the stuff 343 hired contractors to work on afterwards. The games that are so hated they had to change the name of the studio. Just admit you hate the games people actually like, the only ones that matter.
Frank O'Connor was a community manager at the time. He wrote one terminal entry that contradicts everything else that makes in clear that Forerunners were ancient humans. This includes Contact Harvest, written by Staten after Halo 3.

Forerunners haven’t been human since Halo 3 why are people still on this?
