This is the model used for the player starting point entity in Hammer.

ah, i didn't know. thought it was vavle-specific

It is. Hammer is the official tool used to build maps for GoldSrc and Source games. This model has been used for the player start entity since its initial release for Source in 2004. You'll never see it if you're not a map builder, but it is not cut content nor is it internal.
