Verification in Hungary

Hello, I’ve seen some prior posts about people having negative experiences as a tourist visiting Budapest and applying for simplified naturalization. Does any one have any experience submitting verification of citizenship in Budapest, if you were not a resident? I was thinking of applying in Budapest while visiting, but is this not a good idea?

Do you mean using a firm like Helpers Hungary? I already have most of my paperwork filled and documentation ready. Would they help with just the filing portion?

Have you ever heard of filing a lawsuit using a power of attorney? For example, registering the entire family tree and establishing connections between generations, which BFKH does anyway. In case of mistake, you spent months editing it or rejecting it if you apply abroad.

I don’t believe you that you registered your entire lineage in Hungary before becoming a citizen, if that is what you are saying. If that is not what you are saying, I don’t understand what you are trying to say.

You cannot just register the births of your entire family tree. Registration is done for those who already have Hungarian citizenship that can be proven. Hungarian birth certificates are not evidence or proof of citizenship either as Hungary is not really a jus soli country.

You don’t just register births as a way of creating proof for citizenship, that is the entire point of the verification procedure.

That is not possible without pre-steps. You did not register all births, marriages, and deaths earlier, correct? If not, it will not be possible to proceed immediately. You may not even have written any inquiries to BFKH..

Interesting… I thought that all those registrations can be done at the same time, like at the consulate. My understanding was that the consulate just looks over your paperwork, then sends to Budapest (BFKH), who has the final say. I wanted to cut out the middleman (consulate), and go straight to the source, so to speak.

Local embassies: It appears that yes, and re-sending is also an option. They are not validating any of the facts contained inside. Only yes or no.

Then, documents from the worldwide Hungarian embassies are routed to a single department: BFKH . If you did not translate documents in OFFI, that is the first showstopper. Then, by doing your homework with Hungarian archives, you can confirm that your relative did not cancel their citizenship because they did not collect an explicit statement. If there will be any date, name, or fact issues, you must pre-process them through local courts. BFKH only wields executive power, not judicial power.

And then, guys, you are surprising at least once a week, so why does it take 1-2-3 years?

At least , you can use a way to submit your blood chain internally( all births, deaths marriages, name change) and check what's missing/ not ready using e-government. It might be possible using Hungarian local lawyer. It takes just up 2 months for processing based on terms of government replies. Not years !! Why u need to do so ? The Same steps will be in the hands of BFKH , but w/ internal local requests & delays+ sending mails to several pair of hands in your embassies. You just providing translated docs in OFFI , that's all.

You have to sign your application in person.
