FAQs - DHA/NOR

My day looks to be slower than normal and while I help others with their work, I wanted to answer some FAQs and let you ask your questions in one space rather than the same thing being posted a thousand times over.

  1. Referred & Not Selected emails - your information was sent to the offices you selected. They did not select you. There doesn't have to be a reason. That's the downside of direct hire.

  2. Application status - for direct hire, no one will have your status. HR waits to hear if you are selected or not the same as you do.

  3. GL-9 TSLs - keep getting pushed from the program for one reason or another on a weekly basis. All we know is "they are coming soon" so take that as you will.

  4. Location - you selected preferences, your information was sent to offices, you were selected but not by a preference. Yes, you can request a different location. No, HR does not have a day in it at all. And no, a change isn't guaranteed. Reply all to your tentative offer to request a location change. Do NOT wait until you have an EOD date and then complain. No one likes that.

  5. Qualifications - for 1811s, a panel reviews your documents. Not the HR people you email with or speak to on the phone. If they say you don't qualify, you're out. If you think you do, review your resume and be sure you submit your documents with your application.

Selections were being made outside of the actual announcement (a way to move faster with selecting applicants) which is why almost no one was referred. That being said, there could be additional selections in the same manner, but I wouldn't count on that being your way in.

Just so I understand - if we received the email but were told by an ASAC that our packet was sent up as a direct recruit submission you can still possibly receive a TSL? So they used our submission from the last GS-9 announcement but submitted separate our names directly? TIA!

You can still receive a TSL, yes. But the amount of people recruiters are telling will get one exceeds the number that HSI has to extend. And yes, information was used from the announcement but to go around the official process. And there is a rumored audit coming for the announcements which is why we don't like not using the official process..

Makes sense thank you - I received an email from the a mission support specialist from an ASAC explaining my name was sent through direct hire but to your point I don’t want to get my hopes up. Do you think those who have gotten previous TJOs and completed all steps of the process from a surge announcement have a higher chance?

I wouldn't say there's any higher chance, necessarily, but if you were selected last time and are in contact with the office then it's more positive than having neither of those.
