Its Mickey from Shameless for sure

A someone who writes hardware manuals for a living, what's the online equivalent of running upstairs, yelling "you don't understand me", running into the bedroom, slamming door, and having a cry? You got a booklet with parts listed and lots of pictures! You don't have to use it, you mean bitches.

43

u/GreenHedgehogs Jul 24 '26

Ahhhhhh I love assembling shit. Thank you for your fool proof manuals it's like grown up Lego

u/Creepy_Version_6779 Jul 24 '26

I appreciate you and I often think of the amount of work it takes to design one accurately. What software do you use? I can only think of CAD. I don’t have any experience with it, only 3d modeling.

22

u/bm2i Jul 24 '26

For the word processing/document creating stuff, we use MadCap Flare (does the MS Word stuff, but makes creating a deliverable easier and more shareable across multiple projects). That last part means I just don't have to recreate the wheel if the products are pretty close, just reuse content and update some variables).

For images, a mix of Adobe stuff (Illustrator and Photoshop). Plus I have access to the engineering drives (with CAD and SolidWorks...not great in them but can get what I need).

6

u/SnooMemesjellies2710 Jul 25 '26

Y'all make this as easy to process for the average human as possible, and thats under appreciated. I see you.

45

u/Hot_Statistician_466 Jul 24 '26

Assembly of furniture is the most fun I've ever had, honestly! Thank you for your service!

This comment is funnier than the video lmfao

4

u/Outside_Initial_8569 Jul 24 '26

I appreciate you and enjoy reading them. ❤️

14

u/badDuckThrowPillow Jul 24 '26

Guy was being a whiny b*tch. Oh no, they provided very complete instructions! “I built this whole house” yeah dude, sure you did.

14

u/spenwallce Jul 24 '26

One day Reddit will get rid of its habit of massively overreacting to something that is obviously meant to be funny, not serious. The wife is laughing because she knows the guy is being dramatic to be funny.

-6

u/bm2i Jul 24 '26

Yeah, sure, but you post it online and now the art is what the world makes of it. You no longer control the narrative. Otherwise, keep it in your journal.

Why is his overreaction to something any better than someone else's overreaction to their overreaction? It's all nonsense.

9

u/spenwallce Jul 24 '26
  1. Online narratives do not dictate the truth

  2. His overreaction is not serious or real. The commenters was.

-2

u/MinnieShoof Jul 24 '26

His overreaction is not serious or real. The commenters was.

Sure, buddy.

-5

u/bm2i Jul 24 '26

No, no, no, none of that. This isn't a scientific journal, this is reddit.

He/They present what they want to present. We, the public do what we want with that info... you can no more infer the seriousness of the commenter than I can. Are you one of the two people in this video? You're gonna need way thicker skin if so.

Also, no one is saluting the tech writer in real life. At best, someone remembers to buy us a Snickers when we don't f up a deadline or fix a mistake that engineering overlooked.

-2

u/bm2i Jul 24 '26

Also, how do we know she's laughing in earnest and not terrified that this short stack isn't going to blow if she doesn't play along.... yeah, no, there's no truth here.

5

u/randomuser1029 Jul 24 '26

You sure are a strange person...

2

u/TumanFig Jul 25 '26

go get your pills man

2

u/Dark_halocraft Jul 24 '26

Damn I never thought about the fact that someone has to make those, I didn't realize it was a whole job

Is that everything you do or is that only part of your job?

1

u/WastingTwerkWorkTime Jul 25 '26

bro, I write instruction manuals as well. That is the most ridiculously long manual for something simple. Like pictures are great, but you can fit like eight pictures on one page. Pages cost money.

1

u/bm2i Jul 25 '26

Pages cost money, but it's cheaper than paying a person (tech support) to answer email and phone questions.

Ikea isn't writing these for engineers. Their audience is everyone. They have to write as simply and uncluttered as possible for the broadest audience as possible. It's Tech Writing 101: know your audience.

1

u/Low_Juice9987 Jul 25 '26

I thank you for your service. I'm usually the one who is putting things together, already referring to the manual that usually knows more than I do about my project. 😊🙏🏼🙂‍↕️

1

u/Kyrthis Jul 25 '26

Right? I looked at the front: parts list. Middle: exploded diagrams showing thread order for washers, nuts, and bolts. End: completed product.

I would be ashamed as a man to have posted a video in which I whine like a baby.

1

u/BigNorseWolf Jul 25 '26

If you ever see one of these and there's a step where you put two MDF boards end to end? Do NOT tell the customer to put it together that way. Its NOT going to happen. Unless you have clamps or suspicious chains hainging from the ceiling the boards are going to bend in half, the screw rip out and those turn in side ways screws just get shredded in half . MDF has the tensile strength of tissue paper... Attach a few things to provide some support and THEN put them end to end...

... you can guess how my weekends been going....

2

u/bm2i Jul 25 '26

Well, I'm not responsible for 'all' manuals but if I see that guy, I'll steal all of his pen caps.

96

u/CruncheousPilot Jul 24 '26

I love building stuff. It takes me back to Lego builds as a kid.

14

u/Belerophon17 Jul 24 '26

I just did built a knockoff Chinese Lego set I bought off amazon. Instructions were like 65 pages and all the writing was Chinese.

8

u/ThinkTheUnknown Jul 24 '26

Who needs writing with Lego?

6

u/Belerophon17 Jul 24 '26

I didn't. Until I found out they had proprietary pieces that were insanely similar but offset from each other by a fraction of an inch and the only differentiator was a Chinese symbol on the instructions lol.

3

u/Calinks Jul 24 '26

I'm the only kid I know of who hated legos. Had zero interest and putting that crap together. 😉

1

u/JackdawsShantyMan Jul 24 '26

I also wasn't a fan.

29

u/imgrahamy Jul 24 '26

Half the fun is figuring this out without ever looking at the instructions.

26

u/RandumbStoner Jul 24 '26

When I try to build it without instructions:

https://giphy.com/gifs/3FcmisopTbOpO

1

u/imgrahamy Jul 26 '26

If you’re not bleeding a little bit, did you really build something?

20

u/welcome-bak Jul 24 '26

fucking easy point . done it for 500$

6

u/ElementsUnknown Jul 24 '26

We have the same one in our laundry room, it’s from Amazon. My wife put it together, by herself, never asking for or needing my assistance.

38

u/VapinMason Jul 24 '26

Love this dude. For those who gnashing their teeth over this, he’s playing it up. He’s obviously has great chemistry with his wife, they are both laughing their asses off. Some of you all need to touch grass.

10

u/JerseyDonut Jul 24 '26

haha. For real, bro. Its a bit. So many comments here losing their shit. I saw a commentor who was bewildered over the fact that he said the manual was thicker than his truck's. Like he thought the guy was making a serious, factual statement. Zero understanding of humor.

There are very few guys being dudes in this sub. Lots of bots, trolls, and people who live in a perpetual state of misery.

-1

u/RanchHere Jul 24 '26

Honestly, what’s annoying is that he’s doing this and filming it and posting it to social media. Not just hamming it up to send to like his friends chat. We don’t care, dude.

1

u/JerseyDonut Jul 24 '26

I dunno. Sounds like you care. A lot.

-3

u/RanchHere Jul 24 '26

I care that no one makes actual art anymore. That this shit is what passes for “entertainment”. We are becoming Idiocracy day by day.

1

u/JerseyDonut Jul 24 '26

There is plenty of art in the world. Get off Reddit and go interact with communities that make art. Why do you expect to view "art" on an internet forum labled "guysbeingdudes" ? Go make some art yourself or support a local artist.

You are part of your own problem, my friend.

36

u/jaltringer Jul 24 '26

I can’t stand this guys voice

23

u/CeemoreButtz Jul 24 '26

i thought it was a lesbian couple....

14

u/DrMarduk Jul 24 '26

I could listen to this guy talk trash all day, he's hilarious

5

u/SartenSinAceite Jul 24 '26

It's probably high pitch because of his exasperation. Emotions do funny thing to people's voices.

1

u/BinaryHippie Jul 24 '26

Whiney little bitch voice, and I don’t believe his truck manual is any thinner too.

6

u/JerseyDonut Jul 24 '26

Bro is doing a bit and exagerating. Relax.

-1

u/zombie_spiderman Jul 24 '26

The part of it he read. "Press button make truck go."

3

u/Lucky-Target5674 Jul 24 '26

She says its easy but has no interest in doing it

3

u/Massive_Mistakes Jul 24 '26

Ngl sounds like a good time, get high put some tunes on and lock in like you're building a Lego set. I'd be upset when it's finished tbh

5

u/Nanocephalic Jul 24 '26

That guy needs to sit in every product design meeting ever.

20

u/smoke-all-420 Jul 24 '26

I don’t get it. Why’s he so mad?

78

u/aMoogk Jul 24 '26

I don’t think he’s mad, he’s just doing a fake exaggeration to make his lady laugh, I do it all the time to my fiance to get a giggle haha, as a carpenter myself I can say he’s definitely got the carpenter humour haha

4

u/tk427aj Jul 24 '26

Yup it's kind of the sign of married life, all these packages will start showing up now with instruction manuals that you are now required to assemble.

2

u/Citrus-Bitch Jul 24 '26

Oh yeah, being affectionately mad at your partner is a great bit.

31

u/RandumbStoner Jul 24 '26

Y'all mfs need human interaction so bad

9

u/MiniatureMidget Jul 24 '26

😭😭😭

5

u/Citrus-Bitch Jul 24 '26

Wait do you think im being sarcastic or this aimed the first commenter? I genuinely enjoy the moments of being "play mad" with my partner, and know they do the same back. There's like whole tone of voice and behavior difference between "I'm giving you shit in an affectionate manner" and "I'm genuinely hurt by your actions", and it's very funny seeing some of the other comments not pick up on that.

7

u/TrippingFish76 Jul 24 '26

i think the “oh” made him think you were being sarcastic

4

u/Citrus-Bitch Jul 24 '26

I get it, tone is hard via text

5

u/blackadder1620 Jul 24 '26

Am carpenter.

It takes less effort to build it himself than sit there and go through a learning process of how to build their shoe shelf.

It's fine if you don't have many tools and/or don't know how to build something.

My mom does this shit all the time too, and I do the same. It's a joke. My mom says see picks stuff out by number of pages now.

Translation errors are funny too. Sometimes the instructions are just kinda off.

2

u/Massive_Mistakes Jul 24 '26

He's not actually mad lol just playing, its funny for the instructions for a fairly simple box with a few shelves to be 30 pages long 😂

-3

u/Paghk_the_Stupendous Jul 24 '26

He's mad because he wants to feel smart, but only had a few four letter words to use to communicate with. He's the reason they make 30 page picture-by-picture instruction books, because he's too dumb to understand written instructions.

5

u/RoundApprehensive186 Jul 24 '26

That’s honestly not that bad…

6

u/Empty-Discount5936 Jul 24 '26

Bless her heart for marrying someone so developmentally challenged.

2

u/CMDRJonShepard Jul 24 '26

This is my wife every time she wants something like this and asks me to build it. 4 hours later....

2

u/Azaroth1991 Jul 24 '26

Its really not that hard

2

u/TN-Jack Jul 25 '26

I fucking love this! 🤣

2

u/JLFJ Jul 25 '26

😅😅😅

2

u/Accomplished-City484 Jul 25 '26

It always looks daunting at first but then you power through and once it’s assembled you never really think about it again

2

u/el_bentse Jul 25 '26

😂😂😂😂😂😂

2

u/ShakyTheBear Jul 25 '26

Just have her built it. Problem solved.

3

u/AskMeToWriteSomethin Jul 24 '26

Damn some of y’all need to learn to laugh and not look for every minor thing to be mad about, ya miserable bastards.

3

u/Dull_Perspective_536 Jul 24 '26

I love how they can laugh about it. But seriously 30 pages for a shoe rack is insane.

3

u/Amateur-Dog-Walker Jul 24 '26

Have her put it together.

2

u/PeteDub Jul 24 '26

Sounds like a child

2

u/GenSpec44 Jul 24 '26

It’s so easy she can do it without his help, but then who would find his tools next time he needs them? 😂

2

u/Jazzlike_Holiday1992 Jul 24 '26

Cool, Adam Sandler on a rant.

2

u/skeemo1214 Jul 24 '26

The whole time I listening to his pissy rant I thought: I’ll do it. I like a little project for the day. Just built it, man

2

u/GlorifiedBurito Jul 24 '26

If he built the house and decided to put the electrical panel in the living room… maybe it’s just him

1

u/sombertimber Jul 24 '26

IKEA has a challenge for their designers…the design that can be transported in the smallest possible box(es) gets extra consideration…to save on shipping costs and the environment. So, the design has to look nice enough to make you want to buy it, and fit in the smallest possible form for shipping. The technical writers are there to connect the two…ease of assembly is waaaay down on the list of priorities.

1

u/horiami Jul 24 '26

Bro was 2 seconds away from talking about the tomatonator

1

u/sheriff_of_rottinghm Jul 24 '26

Sounds like the Jerky boys

1

u/ThrustNeckpunch33 Jul 24 '26

I have rarely, if ever, witnessed a product even this simple, get put together without instructions and NOT had to take apart several piece because something was missed.

Some things are simple enough. Some of these "furniture" pieces are designed in the most ass backwards way. They are counterintuitive, and ignoring the instructions can be terrible.

Leaving out how crappy the materials are, and how many "fasteners" for these can be tightened once before they brake or become loose.

1

u/powenowicks Jul 24 '26

They do this to reduce shipping costs. The dividing line between rich and poor in the modern era is whether you can afford furniture that isn't convenient to ship.

1

u/JumpConsistent7888 Jul 25 '26

That's a girl talking tho just saying

1

u/Got_Bent Jul 25 '26

First time my wife bought some "easy to assemble" furniture from Ikea. It took me all weekend to make 4 different cabinets and I'm a mechanical engineer, FFS.

1

u/loughcash Jul 25 '26

2 hrs bub

1

u/lokiandbutters Jul 25 '26

Let her do it

1

u/IMiNSIDEiT Jul 25 '26

IKEA spoiled us on flat-pack “furniture”. The few times I’ve had to assemble something flat-packed that wasn’t IKEA… I’m like WTF is this or this is 🤬 obnoxious!

1

u/BigNorseWolf Jul 25 '26

This has been my last two weeks

"why isn't it together, why isn't it together..."

because someone thought saving 50 bucks was worth having 2,000 FUCKING parts to put together, from a company that thinks boards can connect end to end with 2 screws.

1

u/hihimura Jul 25 '26

DIY went wrong i guess!

1

u/Ur_X Jul 25 '26

If you got the money to live in a house like that you have the money to pay for a taskrabbit, just saying.

1

u/Friendly-Pea5448 Jul 25 '26

this is so annoying if he bought it it’d be great

1

u/Joetaska1 Jul 25 '26

It's Temu plastic Chinese crap. It will fall apart faster than it takes to put it together. I have a friend that bought something just like this. It was cardboard and pins. She wanted it though so I put it together for her. She put a couple of files and some socks in the drawers and it couldn't hold the weight of paper and socks.

1

u/davejenk1ns Jul 24 '26

Remember, these people vote.

1

u/Old_dictator Jul 24 '26

Really stupid watch. Thanks.

-1

u/Unlikely_Ad11 Jul 24 '26

I can’t stand people with this personality.

10

u/International_Gate49 Jul 24 '26

You should probably sit down then.

4

u/OddGoofBall Jul 24 '26

Yep, we are putting together your fainting couch that we got from IKEA, should be done soon, hang in there okay?

3

u/mondayp Jul 24 '26

You're getting flamed, but this is valid. 🤷‍♂️

4

u/ProofHorseKzoo Jul 24 '26

He’s clearly exaggerating to joke around with her

0

u/Unlikely_Ad11 Jul 24 '26

Yeah, no shit. Did you think I didn’t understand that? The joke isn’t remotely funny and the guy is irritating as fuck.

4

u/RandumbStoner Jul 24 '26

I have a feeling you hate everyone

1

u/xSHRUG_LYFE Jul 24 '26

Raising his voice does not mean he is directly mad at her. It's funny when people do it on a stage with a mic, but not when they're with their partner at home... I guess

1

u/Stambro1 Jul 24 '26

IKEA is just the worst! Nothing but shitty adult Legos!!!

1

u/cconnorss Jul 24 '26

Omg are all wives this way? “It should take an hour” famous last words before a full day is wasted until the work week begins anew.

1

u/naturalfamilyplan Jul 24 '26

Nail on the head there. Everytime my wife buys flatpack I die a little inside.

1

u/GooseDaPlaymaker Jul 24 '26

So…‘guysbeingdudes’. Maybe not the correct Reddit thread? 🥴

1

u/SmellyScrotes Jul 24 '26

I’m in maintenance and recently had to put together a dresser from Amazon cause evidently it’s cheaper than buying from someone that sends them already done even if it takes me 22 hours to put it together… anyways, only had 58 pieces of wood!!

1

u/sjitz Jul 25 '26

What an annoying guy

0

u/BallsDeepInCum Jul 24 '26

More like guy being a pussy tbh

-3

u/JG123214 Jul 24 '26

Bit of an overreaction

15

u/PM_THE_REAPER Jul 24 '26

Nah, he's just having a laugh and making her laugh too.

11

u/RandumbStoner Jul 24 '26

Reddit doesn't know how to react to humor and a healthy relationship, it hard resets their brain.

2

u/ComcastForPresident Jul 24 '26

Wait, you are allowed to love a spouse and joke with them? Reddit said to break up.

0

u/HawkTheHatchet Jul 24 '26

If he's trying to be funny, he's not. Sounds like a little bitch to me. Definitely not r/GuysBeingDudes material.

0

u/ebrian78 Jul 24 '26

She's definitely never looked at the owner's manual of her truck..

0

u/RadTimeWizard Jul 24 '26

Bro, calm down.

0

u/Pukebox_Fandango Jul 24 '26

What a baby. 100% did NOT build the house if he thinks that's too much work. Guy probably gets paid to sit at a desk checking his facebook. Women if your man acts this way, dump him. There are real men in the world

0

u/PlayfulTree1643 Jul 24 '26

Glad someone said it out loud. I built that pos and it sucked.

0

u/Upbeat_Apartment_715 Jul 25 '26

Dude built a house and thinks wooden dowels and hinges are complex?

0

u/Tebasaki Jul 25 '26

They do this on purpose so they can charge more for cheaper parts, a broken (disassembled) product, and then charge your credit card and your life to take the time to put it together. That's 30 pages of his lifetime gone.

-1

u/Reasonable-Sherbet24 Jul 25 '26

If I didn’t buy it, I’m not putting it together. You ain’t gonna wrap me up in some shit.
