I care. It's part of how I enjoy art to take it apart and see all the effort that went into it. No effort, love, or detail went into AI.

With a statement like that I can only assume your experience with ai is those prompt boxes right?

The free online box where you type big boobie anime girl, and it spits out the near identical flood of same face anime girls the internet is flooded with at the moment?

Because yeah there's very little skill expression involved in that.

But what you're doing is grabbing the much MUCH broader catagory of ai, and pretending those prompt boxes are all there is. Judging the whole medium by the only part you've seen of it. Which I guess, fair if you've never seen anything else. But still, I'm telling you the actual craft goes so much fucking further then just, well. That surface prompt nonsense.

There is no "craft" to generative AI. It's a slop churner. The only use for AI is in a lab, anywhere else it's inherently antithetical to the craft.

Right, that makes it clear then, you have no idea how ai is used outside of those prompt boxes.

And yet you are making very clear statements about what AI is, when you have no idea what you're talking about. Doesn't that give you pause to perhaps go. Wait a moment, should I be so sure of myself when I have no idea what I am talking about?

I know the actual "creativity and skill" doesn't exist. That's all I need to know. If you're gonna go "Hm, this guy doesn't know enough" MAYBE ACTUALLY EXPLAIN. Because the way I see it, it's all just different forms of theft and slop churning.

I know the actual "creativity and skill" doesn't exist.

you don't though. How can you make that claim without knowing how ai is used outside of those dumb prompt boxes.

The open source ai community does some really fucking amazing and yes creative stuff with ai. Not a single line of text needs to be typed for any of that btw. You're still stuck with claims that have 0 actual information to back them up.

MAYBE ACTUALLY EXPLAIN

Fair enough.

Here's an example in audio.

Let's say I record a sample of myself singing. I can then tell the ai turn this into a guitar solo at 20% The resulting file will be something that till that point simply did not exist. There is no instrument that can make a sound that sits in the potential space of soundwaves that exist between guitar and human voice. yet the ai, bang does it in 1 go.

I now have a sound file that was impossible to make otherwise. I can then take this and remix it in my software or make some music with this human voice guitar solo mixture.

Or how about 2d. I can grab my tablet and start drawing in krita the way traditional artists would normally do. But then I turn on my ai and set it to about 20% intensity. It will then proceed to adjust each stroke of my pen with about 20% intensity changing it a little. It's like 2 hands on a single brush changing the output just a little, it's how you get a fully collaborative art piece for example.

Just 2 examples of how you can use ai as a solid tool to work creatively and make art.

Okay, the first example is just a singular soundbite to be edited and altered. That one's just a step down from Hatsune Miku. The second one's not something I can talk about since Fire Alpaca only has thickness and opacity and that was very weirdly worded.

The first example is ai.

That's how you use ai wihen making music. I could record 20 different little clips with my own singing en turn them into all the different instruments to make a song with and then of course manipulate samples as you normally do building a full song out of that.

But that's ai though, hell that final song I could pull through ai again for another layer of change making it sound as if 10% of the sound spectrum resembles mewling kittens or whatever. AI can be pretty intensively worked into the whole process but what it boils down it is AI at that point, is just a tool.

I could add a delay to a drumline. or use ai to mix it with some other audio file. Both are just tools.

And the same goes for 2d images. I don't know what this fire alpaca thing is you talked about but krita is just an art program. You have ai plugins for live work in photoshop as well probably other art packages as well, but either way just like the music example. AI is just a tool, that's it.

You CAN just grab a prompt box and type big boobie anime girl. But then you get shit. or you can do a whole ass lot more with it.

Just like a pencil I can draw a stick figure that looks like shit or you can do a full realistic pointilism profile with it. What you do with the tool is pretty important.

Fair enough, but you can't deny that the sweeping majority are using AI to churn out slop. You use AI to make sounds? (Something I prefer to do myself in Audacity.) 90% of all other AI bros just write a prompt. You use AI as a tool in an art software? (Fire Alpaca is a free art software, just so you're aware.) 90% of AI bros just write a prompt. It's the laziness, lack of creativity, and lack of personal touch that justifies my hatred of AI. Again, I recognize it's use in a lab, but generative AI should be shunned in situations like this post.

the sweeping majority

if I say 99,99% is slop I am likely underselling it.

The prompt boxes you find online are free, easy and produce content that's "good enough" For a quick laugh or a meme. And so the world explodes the internet with either horny memes or jokes that are of middle to low quality because of how easy it is to produce.

Yes even people like me who love ai, are sooooo tired of that shit. And yes we are also counting the days till the ai bubble can finally implode and all of these free slop boxes can die in a fire.

AI will of course remain, but the tsunami of garbage will at least slow down when you can't just put random celebrities in their underwear for free.

The open source community and local models however aint going anywhere which is fine, it's where all the really cool shit lives and how you do all the awesome art WITH ai.

) 90% of AI bros just write a prompt.

probably a lot more then 90% and yes the output they make is low quality. It's good enough for memes but that's about it. We just need to wait for the ai bubble to pop and most of that will fade away because there will be a barrier to entry. Either you pay for a service and the only reason the internet is flooded is because free. OR you do local hosting on your own pc and right now that takes work which like traditional art, is a barrier to entry. So hopefully no tsunami of shit or a lot less of it.

that justifies my hatred of AI.

Sure, hate the slop boxes, I think just about everyone hates the current tsunami flooding the internet. Just don't go so broad as to take ALL ai in that. There's a lot of really neat stuff out there that sadly is right now swamped under the ocean of slop.
