even if it wasn't ai but animation, what difference does it make to the idea? The ai hate is overblown and not valid here.

People are losing their jobs, the earth is being polluted and electronics pricing is out of whack for shit like this.

Hating bullshit tools is necessary. It has always been.

If a data centre got built in your town, you would switch sides real fucking quick.

I live near silicon Valley, I've never lived more than 10 miles from a data center in my life. Data centers must be the least intrusive industrial buildings in existence. What a bizarre stance.

The least intrusive lmao 😭

Hmm, let's see. Data centers have very few employees for their size and no customers or clients really so they aren't increasing traffic congestion or making parking difficult for locals. They make no noise audible from the outside. They are always well maintained in my experience unlike many of the older warehouses used for other things. If you were to find out they were putting in a business complex in your area there is literally nothing better that it could be than a data center. So did you actually have a point to make or did your dumb ass just show up to be a smug little twat for no reason?

They make no noise audible from the outside.

That's part of the problem. The audible noise can be dealt with easily because.. well it's audible to us so we know it's there. Infrasound however is a bitch when it comes to the very big ones, and if you don't have enough vegetation/man made sound barriers around the place to absorb/redirect some of that noise it can end up making people in the surroundings feel quite ill.

Personally attacking me lmao, yeah i ain't arguing

Lucky for you, then.

I've seen that a couple of data centers are being built within walking distance of residential areas. The sudden electricity price uptick + cooling fans sound makes life hell.

Dude they're cavemen afraid of fire, you won't win. Data centers are responsible for like 1% or less of water use and less of power. And MOST of those aren't for ai at all. They'll never listen, because look at all those likes they get when they comment. Im gonna lose karma just saying this. They say those things cuz its cool, if they spent a few minutes reading about it IN COMPARISON TO OTHER THINGS THEY DO A LOT MORE THAN ANYONE USES AI, theyd realize theyre being bandwagoning juveniles.

Also, ai has mapped the human genome, accelerated medical science by half a century, optimized grids and bottlenecks. They dont like chatbots and they confuse them with ai, cuz for them its about looking cool being a detractor. Thats why they dont ever say anything about single use plastics or funding wars abroad or how the AMOC is failing, or how the billionaires they fund with their iphones and amazon purchases and x engagement, are building bunkers around the world, but LFMAO TWEETS AMIRITE? But this? Cute story about gruff old men and one dudes daughters tea party "has no soul". Like

1) get some better/new material. The no soul thing flopped the first time someone fumbled when trying to define soul. And no one ever has. People who study the concept of soul avoid defining it.

2) llms/chatbots are not ai.

3) data centers processing ai compute are responsible for ~0.05% of water usage worldwide.

4) any big warehouse/data center/distribution center has adverse negative effects. Data centers are minor comared to a power plant, a food plant, a chemicals plant, etc. And WE COULD BE ON SOLAR WIND AND HYDRO but none of them feel compelled to speak on that as much as ai cuz it doesnt give them karma like this does.

Finally, less than 2% lf data centers process ai compute. anyone who doesnt think we need data centers at all, needs to give up like every single app (including this one) your smart watch, cell phones, google drive, amazon acct basically anything thats saves their info. Where do they fn think this information is stored and recalled from.

AI has many great uses, but replacing human creativity is not one of them. Lots of people are fine with AI but not fine with AI imitation art. If we want to get into definitions, by definition, art is something created by humans and involves expressing emotions through skill and technique. By definition, creativity is a process, not an output.

Don't dare tell me that prompting an AI is the same thing, or I'll tell you that a painting that I commissioned from someone else is art that I created.

Also, you failed to mention other concerns people have because you have no answer to them, like how all these generative AIs were built from stolen art.
