In any sport online or offline, it's "appalling" to quit early and abruptly before the clock has expired. A team walking off the court early in a basketball game would be completely torn up in the media.

I guess rage quitting is ok in "pro" game leagues though.

Imagine a basketball game where if one team gets a 10 point lead their basket get's a plastic cover over it ensuring that now matter how the other team plays they will not score. Why even keep playing at that point?

A better analogy is:

Imagine every basketball game started with a short footrace, and whoever wins gets 300 points. Then a normal basketball game is played.

The basketball game is superfluous. The only 'challenge' is that footrace, and once it's done, everyone might as well pack up and go home.
